Neptune Temp Probe Sucks

So I just realized my temp probe was messed up and it was reading my temp higher than it actually was. I was able to get the temp back up, but not before I lost some of my nicer larger colonies. I have heard of these going out alot after searching about them, does anyone know if the newer probes are better, they look different than my old one.

Mine is reading about 5 degrees higher than my Coralife digital. I need to get a third, trustworthy reading to know which to trust. How did you know yours was reading wrong?

sorry to hear man. If the probe is still good you can offset it in the "setup" to read the right temp. I've had good luck with the new style one on my Jr.

Well it said the temp was 81 but when I put my hand in it was ice cold. I am not sure what the exact temp was at that time but I plugged in my heater that was set for 78-79 and it ran on for several hours, than by the time I was able to get a thermometer to see what the temp was the thermometer read about 77-78 and my aquacontroller was reading 86.

I had same problem with an old temp prob but since i replaced it, everything is ok. I had to make a less than 1 degree adjustment. I always have a thermometer(those you have to reed with the red line)in my sump so i can compare.

I had the same problem, I replaced it. The new ones are are built a lot better, look almost like a ph probe. However the ph probes are a different story, they go out really fast!

For back up on mine I run the tank with the heaters only until I have them set to control the temperature around 80. Then I hook them to the aqaucontroller for around 78 or 79. That gives me the backup from the heater, but the finite control of the heater.

By the way the newer, more robust, probes seem to be a bit better for applications where they are in high flow or get bumped around a bit.

Thanks for the advise. I have the temp ok now, will just have to see what survives and doesnt. Funny thing is I lost some of my nice colonies but than some other ones dont even look faised.
