NERAC X - Are you going?

The conference and aquarium ticket covers you for both, conference tickets gets you into both the vendors and speakers.

Low attendance

Low attendance

The LIRA club has had its ups and downs.
I have attended meetings where it was standing room only.
I've also been to early meetings where there were only a handful of us.

It all comes down to creating a draw to bring in new and existing club members.
It could be sparked by one member or even a small grouping.

We have members like Cullyisgully and Username Invalid that post on the forum and keep the club alive.

I think the members that are complaining about low turnout should try to become more active on the different sites like here, MR, R e e f 2 r e e f...

Years ago, we used to have so much buzz around the different meetings.
A lot of this came from other members encouraging new members and posting more answers to questions. Also, self promotion site wide. Donating time, even by just posting simple questions or answers, creates interest.

As a senior member of RC, I should also contribute. I have made many friends through RC/LIRA.
I think more people on here should try to give back to the group, if they can.

One other thing.
Another website I belong to emails me updates on threads and actively posts on FB.
RC doesn't do that at all, which is nuts considering the exposure they would get.
Maybe LIRA can do something like this?

I honestly prefer the other 2reef site better than RC for reasons. I don't even visit outside this thread here on RC anymore.

I haven't gone to the last two meetings, and I am new to the club. I'd love to attend one of them soon.

I hope to meet you guys in person at least at the NERAC

those in charge want guest speakers as the meat and potatoes of the "conference".

if you had vendors secured; particularly those selling livestock, you'd have better attendance numbers.

or try and throw a frag swap. you could still have your speakers.

High attendance would secure more vendors, there lies the rub. People are waiting to see which vendors are coming before buying a ticket, and vendors want to see how many people are attending before committing to the event.

Bill, RC does send emails when there are new posts in a thread. Check your subscription settings to see if you have them set to email and of course the email is correct.

The aim is a mix of both, remember the clubs main focus is a non profit educational organization so we must adhere to that first. As a comparison the last MR swap had 2 speakers with only 8 of the 12 vendors selling livestock, we're planning one more speaker for a full day event plus there's nothing stopping anyone from skipping the speakers if they so choose.

This is where we get caught in the middle, we cant lie to the vendors so we just tell them what the last NERAC attendance was and we expect to at least match that number; which we have as attendance has risen each year for past 6 events.

Joe,
so where do we currently stand? Is NERAC a go?

I just renewed my LIRA membership. :)

Joe,

I do get emails for posts on threads, but I'm talking about another website that sends me emails for new threads that I'm not attached to. Maybe something I would be interested in.
It works. I click and I'm usually pleasantly surprised with the threads.
They also run promotions and email members to participate to win products from vendors.
I have never received any emails from RC or LIRA to promote or even talk about what either site is doing. My email is correct.

I'm a busy father of 4 kids and work, but I would be willing to help. Though what it seems like is LIRA and RC need some web design updates. I know that's tough for LIRA, but maybe I'll have to have a word with the owner of RC?

See you all tomorrow.
