Never out feeder tentacles?!?

I've got a couple of chalices and Acans that I've had for a few months that *never* have their feeders out and I'm beginning to see signs of staving on 3 chalices that were growing the first month ;(

I've checked late at night with a flashlight and their not out then either.

Water parameters seem fine

When I first got them my N03 was ~20 and my P04 was .15

I'm running GFO and carbon in a reactor and have a bag of purigen in the sump.

Water changes 10% weekly, but did 20% this week.

Lighting is AI hydras on 56% power

Feeding; I've been using a 50/50 mix of reef roids and reef chilli once a week. I've upped that that to 2times, spot feeding, to try and get a reaction...with no reaction.

All other corals are feeding/growing just fine.

I don't feed my coral often, but the acans will grab mysis during the day when their feeders are not out.

try coral frenzy.. If they don't go after that stuff something is seriously wrong. I could put a pinch into my sump and they would extend tentacles. great for gently spot feeding from a turkey baster.

I find the chalice feeders out early in the night, like an hour after lights out. Try different times of night.

Could it be getting so much light that it isn't looking for food? Grasping at straws but figured I would ask.

I've slightly adjusted my Hydra after looking at the setting thread in the equipment forum. Are you running all colors at 56%? If so you need to do some adjusting. I added clouds 3 times a day to give the corals a little break from the lights, the clouds make my acan put out feeders slightly.

Your pectinia looks washed out in the picture, is it more colorful & this is just the way the camera pulled the light?

Your water is also a little on the clean side for lps. Try feeding the coral frenzy & coral smoothie gets a good response too. I try to rotate foods so you can add Rods & Prime Reef, the fish will eat it too. Start adding Selcon or a similar HUFA. You can put a small amount in the tank & see if that helps to get the feelers out.

Add the selcon about 5 to 10 minutes prior to feeding if you're adding it to the tank instead of soaking food, forgot to add that part

Thanks for the feedback folks,

I've been tried Reef Roids and Reef Chilli with no reaction. There is an LFS that sells reef frenzy, so I may try that next.

Regarding the light programs, I'm not running All colors at 100%, but will check out other peoples settings/experiences in the equipment forum. Here is my current "day time" settings:

I'm running clouds throughout the 4hrs of "max intensity".

Any thoughts on these color settings?​

The Pectina pic was shot with the LEDs off and a flashlight. It is the brightest fluorescent green in my tank! Only thing close to it are GSP and Krypto Candy Canes. That said, it is strangely hard to get a photo that represents the color accurately.


Hmm, Selcon seems worth a shot! I'll see if I can locate any locally.

Mine is a little different as I have a regular Hydra & am just running a basic schedule off the controller. I personally would drop green & red. I had them at 20% & am working my way down to 10%. Supposedly UV & Violet should match but I wouldn't put UV up that high & risk burning the corals.

Pectinia looks much better, makes sense how it looks when you said it was with the flashlight & no LEDs. Good luck!!
