Documenting the creation of a 10G Nano.
It was started with about 4 pounds of Live Sand (LS) and about 10 lbs (2 pieces) of uncured Live Rock (LR). Since it was not cured, I understand that there will be about a 4 week cycling period.
5 Gallons of SW from LFS and in home RO/DI unit to produce remaining SW. Daily testing with a Refractometer and topoff as necessary, salinity at 1.023. The tank came with a water heater and filter. Tossed the filters out the window and purchased a filter pad from LFS. Temp is about 76. I have two nano powerheads to create movement within the tank. Looking at getting an adjustable thermometer and and a new filter (within the week) and use the current in the QT tank when it's setup. I don't have the product names at the moment, but will definitly document.
Took the water back to the LFS for a water test, the only out of balance was the nitrates, drifting between the first two colors. Note that I am not adding anything until the 4 week cycle is completed, just wanted an idea of where things stood.
Day 1
Day 7 view from side
Day 9 with more Algea growth
Day 9 Close up of Brown and Red Algea Beginning a 3 day blackout to address the Algea. A 3 Gallon water change is in store this weekend for the tank.
Also, I know there is more LR than I should have, but there won't be more than a few (2-3) fish when all is said and done. The wife hasn't decided on what is going in yet. In time, it will grow.
