new 125 gl. plumbing

Just got a good deal on a 125 megaflow tank , looking for any ideas on plumbing it , have had a 75 gl reef tank for years with a lifereef over flow so this will be a little different to plumb and tune in with a bigger pump Thanks

Bean Animal Overflow, for sure. Do lots of research on how to do it in the DIY section of RC and watch some YouTube videos on it. I would also do 2 half size return pumps running in parallel rather than a single larger pump. Cost isn't much more and the redundancy is well worth it.

These are lessons learned for me because I didn't plumb for either and regret it. Not enough to break down the tank, redrill and replumb it but that's why your question is such a good one. Start right.

that has dual overflows?

Dual herbie type drains work quite well without drilling more holes. You use the return hole as a drain, and return over the back.

See this guys tank for a good example.

Thanks , will check it out not crazy about doing any drilling , my luck something wouldn't work correctly , hopefully build will go well

I agree that two separate Herbie type systems is the way to go when improving a Mega flow tank.

Good video. There's a couple things that I would do differently.
1. The "open channels" are way too low in the overflows. The water flowing over the weirs will fall too far, causing noise.
2. Nothing good will come from putting valves on the "open channels."
3....not overflow related, but Loc line will kill your flow from the return pump.

Like how he ran the return plumbing into the tank in the video but was also debating on the type of valves on both drains and also running 2 return pumps instead of just one

Gates are more expensive but more precise. I'd suggest those for the siphon lines.

I wouldn't put a valve on the open drains.

One pump.

I have a new 1100 gph pump if that would be the proper size for turn over , Thanks for the advice on the gate valves, this will be a little trial and error I think on getting everything dialed in
