New 12g Aquapod with TBS "Package"

the 24g. since more like 20g lol...i add like 18g. and it needed like one more inch to reach the black trim, and thats without sand or rocks...

You get half your rock (the more basic "decorator" rock) and the live sand with the first shipment. That gives you what you need to start your tank cycling.

But man the life on these "basic" rock is great. I'm finding more critters. I got another crab hiding in a hole. He hasn't come out all the way so I can't tell what kind he is. Hope it's not a gorilla, I'll have to get rid of him.

The second package, after you cycle, is the balance of the rock (coral rock) and your clean up crew...starfish, snails, crabs, cukes...depending on the size of package.

Pricewize (sp.?) I don't think you'll beat it for what you get. By the time you figure live rock, live sand, all those critters and shipping.

Plus I don't know anyone else that ships in water. I looked at Aquarium Arts rock too. But the sand and critters tipped the scale.

Also I really like the idea of this being aquacultured and not taken from living reefs in Fiji, Tonga, etc.

Check out their video at TBS about the whole process. Takes about 15 minutes but its pretty interesting.

I think it looks neat but I would be concerned about it over growing or going sexual. I had some mushroom culerpa in my 10 gallon tank and it went sexual. I pulled it all out and just left some halimeda.

So what happens when it goes "sexual" ... sounds exotic :eek2:

they release spores i guess that can muck up your system. You would be better off asking in the macro forum. They certainly know a lot more about plants than me.

I can't believe all the critters on these rocks. Every time I look I find another tube worm or cup coral or crab out and about...

speaking of crabs...I've read on the site that Gorilla crabs are bad and you can identify them by (among other things) black tips on their claws. Now I've seen several small crabs that appear to have black tipped claws but otherwise don't look like the pictures of Gorilla crabs I've seen.

Are there any other crabs that have black tips that I wouldn't have to worry about???

Thanks

I know that some people have gotten Porcelain crabs but they don't have black tips as far as I know. How many Gorillas do you think you have?

Also where abouts are you located. I am curious as to if your package is traveling through cold weather. It will probably be about feb when I am ready for mine. Was curious how it faired temp wise since it is packed in water.

So far I've seen about 6 or 7 crabs. I don't know if they're all gorillas. they look quite a bit different, and small. Some are fuzzy, some hairy...I guess I'll wait till they get bigger and see if I can identify them better.

I'm in Arkansas, so the shipment wasn't long from Tampa. Richard sent it out Monday afternoon and it got to the Airport that evening. I didn't get it picked up until noon the next day and everything was fine.

And yes the feather dusters are the tube worms. I've got about 7 of those so far. Orange, black, beige and deep purple.

I have heard hairy crabs are not good. But don't take my word for it. I have also heard that if they have pointed ends of the claws they can be potential killers. Emerald crabs have small paddles on the end of theirs. If you can get a good pic of them Richard might be able to id it.

find the hairy ones and pull them out. if they are in a hole,, then inject with fresh water, you can even use lime juice. you can also use a "clear" drinking water bottle cut in half. then turn the drinking end into it self. maybe widening the drinking hole end abit by cutting it off. insert some uncooked shrimp from the store and viola. instant trap. be patient they'll find it.
if it has fat claws pull them. dont wait till they are older. very bad idea. you dont have to kill them. maybe find some one that will take them at you local club. if not, then use the burrial at sea method........ woooosh!
also, find a piece of red plastic to place at the end of a flashlight. the color needs to be the same as a tail light on a car. maybe a wrecking yard or an autobody shop. find a broken one.
use that at night to find the creatures that hunt or move at night. you will be surprised at what you find. be patient and wait.
i have had my TBS for sometime. i told you. you will see new thing EVERYDAY! im not kidding.
happy hunting!

Okay, about the trap...I use the drinking end half, got that. What do you mean by "turn the drinking end into itself". Do you mean insert the cutoff drinking end into the cutoff bottom so that the whole thing is shorter?

yeah make it so its like a funnel so it is wide and the crabs follow the food and they walk through the narrow part of the bottle, then they are in the bottom of the bottle and arent smart enough to make it back through the small opening in the bottle. it makes a trap, then put a piece of shimp inside of the bottle and the crabs will walk in, but arent smart enough to get out

I'll post some pics of my catches. I already pulled out a couple of small dead crabs. Saw them upside down on the bottom. Must not have made the trip.

I wish I could take more closeups of what is in there but doesn't seem my digital likes to do closeups too much.

I'll see what I can get.
