Hi guys I am new to Reef Central, but I have been in the hobby going on 7 years now. My current tank is a 120 4x2x2 that is roughly 5 years old. Well this week I noticed that it had started to develop a leak on the left side of the 4' display side so I pulled the trigger on a Midwest 5x2x2 made in acrylic. While I am waiting for it to arrive (20 long days :reading: ) I have some questions that need my fellow reef keepers opinions. First I have been seriously considering going BB with this tank even though I currently have been running a SSB. Are there any minuses besides missing out on the looks of the sand bed if I go BB? I know that the rock work won't be as secure, but I am going with a minimalist live rock "island approach this time versus the "reef wall" I have currently. Also I have a limited budget so most of the things I had before are carrying on over; sump, skimmer, chiller, UV, pump, lights, ect... My second question to you guys is do you hard (PVC) plumb all your plumbing from display to sump? Currently we had the down pipe drain into a flexible hose into the first chamber of the sump which then went to the Mag 12 return pump. The outlet of the pump was teed so that one return side (two overflow boxes) would pass through the UV and into the display while the other passed through the chiller into the tank. The tank I am getting from Midwest only has one overflow box where I plan to have the pump return all the water through two nozzles. So that being said, can the return pump be plumbed to where the water passes through the UV then through the chiller then back into the display tank?
Thanks for all your help fellas, getting a new tank setup again is the most exciting yet stressful time for me in this hobby as I want to get everything great during the setup!
