New 21 LED Flashlights For Grabs

Alright so they never got me the 32 LED flashlights for the last group buy, and they never restocked them. But yesterday while at the Galt Market, I found a new flashlight with a different vender. It's a smaller light with 21 LED's. Not as bright as the 32 LED, but still really bright.
Runs on 3 AAA's.

I bought 24, but I'm keeping a couple, and plan on giving a couple to the raffle for the swap. So there's 20 for sale at $8 a piece. I added a little to the cost to make up for the ones I'm giving away, and to make sure I make back what I spent, since I put up all the money for them already. Paypal xiaher at hotmail dot com. Paypal fees are $.25 per light. So each light is $8.25. Pickup at next Mars meeting on Oct.20 or Frag swap on Nov.5th. After that if there's leftovers I'll try shipping them.

Xinumaster, Anyone coming from San Jose that can bring it back to you? If there's any left over I can ship one to you.

Xia,

Payment sent for 2 flashlights. I'll only be able to pick them up after the first week of Nov. Thanks.

Great deal, Xia. These would be great for the swap, so snag them up while you can, everyone.

Xia, if there are any left over on swap day, I'm sure others would want to buy them there to assist them with their pick.

Norm--Yes, I can take credit card payments. Yes, you can pay at the swap.

Remember to bring AAA batteries, or I guess I could drop by dollar tree and get a bunch.

Peter--payment received. Have a nice trip!

14 Left.

Ok, dumb question I know, but why is viewing a tank with an LED flashlight better/different from using a normal flashlight?

TCC - most flashlight bulbs have a slightly yellow hue to it - similar to a 6500K bulb. White LED flashlight produces light close to a 10K bulb. If you really want to see how things will look with actinics, you can use blue LED flashlights.

Thanks Minh,

and I really don't want to hijack this thread so will only ask one more question (and honestly, it's more related to why I'd want to get in on this buy, even though I know it's a great buy! and thank you!)

.... but these lights aren't "blue" LED, they're white. I don't understand why it's better.

At first I thought it was because an LED wouldn't make the night critters scatter like showing a flashlight does. ... but I don't think that's right.

Just trying to understand the importance. Honestly, I don't quite "get it".

TCC -

I never said that the white LED is better than the blue LED flashlight. During previous frag swaps, I had both my white LED flashlight and blue LED flashlight. I use the white LED to see what it would "normally" look like. But I would swap to blue to see what it would look like under actinic.

If you don't want the night critters to scatte, then you want red light. If I remember correctly, past 33ft, no red light wave will penetrate. From my limited dive experience, red gears underwater often looks black. Since red wavelength doesn't reach down very far, a lot of sea life have not evolved to see red wavelength. (Similiar to how we can't see ultraviolet.) As a result, when you shine red light into the tank, many of your fish and sea life will not even notice it. So if you want night time viewing - use red lights.

Yeah, people keep asking me what are these flashlights for? Are you suppose to mod them and use them as moonlights? Nah, flashlight are just for seeing in dark places. Just handy when you don't want to power on those halides. Like Minh says it's a nice white light. You're going to wish you had some at the swap. That's the best time to have one.

Xia,

Do you have any left? I love the one I got, and they are the perfect size. If you have them I want 3 or 4 more.

John

Sure thing. I sold 2 at the meeting so I should have 12 left. I'll put you down for 4. Pick up at swap? 8 lights to go.

I'll have to admit I got a little worried when I saw you taking it apart at the meeting. I was thinking, "I hope it's still working when he gets home!"

Xia

I'm an engineer I take everything apart. some things I have to take apart in my mind, and others I just go for it.
