chem e - I want to keep the rock work low profile, but I don't think the current way it's organized I get the best depth visualization. The rest of the height, in time, will come from coral growth!!
Hey sorry to get off task of everything but i have a question on the acrylic thickness. Is it 1/2" thick or 3/4" acrylic? Is there any substantial bowing on the side panels? I am just thinking about building my own tank and am planning something similar.
Yeah it's in the basement. That's my "play" area designated my my fiance. It's not finished so I can spill water all over the floor and make a mess and it doesn't matter. The only person ever down there is me so that makes it nice.
The neighbors probably think "whats that bright blue light coming from the basement?" I don't want to know the stories they probably make up to satisy their curiosity.

heh...i'm fairly sure between the 2000w of light coming from the living room and the phyto/rotifer cultures upstairs (right in front of a window, natch)...my neighbors have some good stories, as well.
I used TropicEden's Mini Flake sand. It has a very nice color and I liked the grain size. I have an empty tank now with the exception of the sand right now. I sold all my equipment. My first child is due in a couple months so had to review my priorities.
I did however keep my marshll island live rock for possible future use... some day.
It looked awesome for a while. Then the tips on my sps started burning/receding and I couldn't get it to stop.
The birdsnest was one of my favorites as well. It was baseball sized but the base was very small. It broke off one day and when I reattached it someof the tips showed signs that they had been out of the water too long. I tried to let it heal itself but it wouldn't grow back. So I clipped all the tips off and that worked like a charm... the branches started to grow back wonderfully.
