New 24 Gallon Reef (Progress will be updated)

Well its been about 3 months now and I have finally decided to set up a thread on my new tank. I got the empty tank and stand from a friend for $50 and began creating my new underwater work of art.

Last year i became interested in the reefing hobby and jumped right into a 90 gallon. I went all out...as best i could at least on a college students budget. 520 watt orbit extreme light fixture, uv, euro reef skimmer...the list of equipment goes on forever. To my great dismay someone became angry with me and decided to sabotage my underwater world. I came back from class one morning and noticed that none of my corals were open. I stuck my hand in the tanka nd about had a heart attack, the tank was well over 100 degrees. I cooled things off as quick as possible by floating bags of ice but it was just too much stress and i lost about 75 percent of my corals. I didn't give up though, I began adding livestock again...and believe it or not some ******blasted my heat again. I decided to break down my 90 and wait till i moved into my new place before starting up again. My old house had 5 room mates...all best friends so none of them were ever suspects. But between us we had upset quite a few women around the Charleston area...its hard being so charming. Many of these angry girls still showed up to our house parties and in my humble opinion were the cause of my first tanks demise. Fortunate for me i only have one room mate now and my new tank is set up in my room (no heater this time either). So far things have been going very well and i hope everyone out there enjoys what i have to share.

The New tank like i said is a 24 Gallon Aquapod. I upgraded the lighting to a 150 watt sunpod running a 14K pheonix bulb...very nice! I decided to keep all my filtration equipment and sump from my 90 and placed an overflow on the Pod to drain water into it. I have a Euro Reef Skimmer rated for a 300 gallon tank, an 18 watt turbo twist uv, and a refugium that is larger than my display. I am using a mag 9.5 into a SCWD which diverts the flow all over the tank. I think i am pushing about 600 gallons per hour in the display maybe more. I haven't decided what to do yet with the refugium section of the sump. Since it is visible i was thinking about setting it up as some type of species only tank. Maybe horses since that was my original but not followed plan with the POD. Or maybe a large peacock mantis. Who knows only time will tell. The current inhabitants in my tank are two very lucky true percs and numerous inverts. If anyone wants to know specifics just ask...anyway here come the pics. They are pretty much in order.

This is the tank at my old house. I took all the LR i wanted to keep from my 90 and just put it in here before i moved.

I got a little impatient and added a couple frags.

This is the tank right after the move. Not to much going on really. I added the percs and a couple more frags.

I decided to paint my sump and equipment black...my girlfriend thought it took away from the display before. Looking back i have to agree it looks much better this way. No i just need to figure out what to put in there...

New galaxia

Great looking setup, definitely going to be very happy corals in there. Any plans on adding any SPS??? That would be a great setup for them.

Personally I would have plumbed it into a closet or something near by, and would have tried to hide the overflow.

Great looking tank though.

This setup is only going to last one year and then will be upgraded back to a larger tank that will be able to house the sump below. I have considered placing a nice sps piece in the middle of my tank since that area is still open and receives excellent flow. Unlike my 90 I am starting to run out of space though so I am waiting for a piece that truely catches my eye.

Well it is one in the morning and i just finished resolving my first emergency situation with this tank. I noticed that half of my SCWD line was not pumping water. So i removed it and cleaned it out. Without me realizing water started going everywhere...needless to say not a good way to start a saturday night. Instead of the bar i spent 3 hours fixing the problem. Long story short my aquascape is totally different and i am honestly looking forward to seeing how things are in the morning. I will provide some pics at that point.

Those are incredible zoas! I like the setup. You probably don't have to do as many water changes with that large skimmer.

Not that good of a pic but it shows the new aquascape.

Excuse my ignorance, but what kind of coral is this? Thanks.
