New 280 Gallon Tank Build

Realized last week my RO/DI was shot.. (TDS was 200+ out of the DI).... ouch

Ordered all new filters from Aqua FX and added 2 new canisters .. now have an 8 stage RO/DI .. pre-filter - 20 micron (rinseable). prefilter - 1 micron, 2x carbon chlorimanr blasters, 2 membranes (in series) and 2 DI filters .... can water have negative TDS :)

finally ordered the tank... having a custom DSA (Deep Sea Aquatics) made.. ended up going slightly smaller with a 72x28x28 (~255 gallon).. will get some pics up when it arrives..

This tank is my biggest... but about my 12th.. so.. I see a 500 gallon in my future..

on a side note, lit up one of my new 400W MH's last night (it's new) next to my current 250W ... i must say it does run considerably brighter and hotter (I know... duh). funny though, both bulbs are Hamilton 14K and the 250W is much bluer.

normally I would agree.. however the 250W bulb was put into service only 3 days before the 400W (of course there are many other factors)... the wattage, the variations in bulbs themselves... and of course they both have different ballasts...

thanks.. I hope to start the doors and canopy tomorrow and finish it all in the next 2 weeks. the tank is on order and should be here in about 4 weeks...

the hydra 52 upgrades should be here monday.. I'll take some pictures of the before and after.

I bought a new regulator for my calcium reactor as I think the one it came with was faulty. It would work great for a few weeks and then dump all of the co2. I hope to fix that tomorrow...

it is slow going until i get the tank.... then the fun really begins.

If anyone has some aquascaping ideas AND pics, that would be great. I do not want a rock wall but something more like 2 to 3 tall islands... then somehow get all the right corals in all the right places..

that never seems to work well... :)

This is a great thread for ideas and the OP has some helpful thoughts, especially in the first couple of post: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2217633

Does anyone have some ideas on a good doser? I am thinking of buying one to automate my saltwater changes...

I only started dosing recently but I like the BRS pumps. I tried a Chinese brand and found that I needed duct tape to keep the front piece from popping off! :angryfire: One gets what one pays for...

thank you very much.. maybe I can just get Veganbrian to come over and scape the new setup! :)

I hear you! Getting it right is not easy. Here are a couple of short articles with more pics and diagrams that I've found helpful:

the new Hydra 52 upgrades came in today.. replaced one of the Vegas... wasn't too bad... the new lights are WAY brighter... I suppose that should be expected as the Vegas had 20 lights and the Hydras have 52... I will hopefully finish my other two upgrades tomorrow.
