New 6 Line Wrasse

Hey everyone,

So about 2 weeks ago, one of my Percula Clowns jumped ship and I found him on the carpet :/ Well the local LFS told me they would have a new one in for me today, but turns out they just got a bunch of Ocellaris clowns instead.

They had a small, about 1"-1.5" six line wrasse. I basically said, "Eh, why not?" and picked him up along with some new Brain Corals. So far he is getting along perfectly with all other inhabitants. In fact, he seems a little timid after everything ive read about wrasses.

He seems to be very healthy and happy. I drip acclimated him for about 30 minutes, then put him in the DT. He immediately started eating pods off the rocks/glass, and had a feast on the frozen mysis I threw in for the rest of my fish.

I understand a 30 gallon is pretty damn small for a wrasse, but he is smaller than all my other fish (except 1 of my Chromis), and I fully understand I'll have to get rid of him once he outgrows it.

Any tips you guys can give me to keep him happy and friendly?

He should be able to stay in your tank it's whole life with no problems. I have one as well and is not aggressive at all but that can all change. Good luck with yours.

all wrasse are big time jumpers, not a matter of if but when,definitely should be a great addition though!

I sure hope my 6line will not get territorial because he is in a 29 gallon tank with 4 other fish including a fireball angel that's a lot bigger than him. I've noticed the more feedings I give them, the better they get along.

IME, six lines are a high risk fish, and more often than not they become aggressive and territorial once they put a little size on and become well established. I've kept a few of them over the years, even in large tanks and they just seem to have a personality change. Not all of them get mean but there are countless reports of this. I would think in a small tank, the behavior would be more pronounced. Lovely little fish with intersting behaviors but not one to be trusted long term.

That's exactly what I was under the impression of. I wasn't planning long term for that exact reason.
