New 9010 and noise?

Set up my new 9010 in the sump last night. It started working right away (after getting the pump in place) and by this morning there was already some dark gunk in the cup, so thats good. The question I have is that it seems to be surging. Although not very loud, the vibration of the pump wains and ebbs just enough that it will drive me crazy. It also appears that the water that flows out the back hole also increases and decreases with the sound. Anything I can do to stop this?

38bill,

Sounds like some air is recirculating causing pressure/flow change in the pump this may be due to the new instillation, try running for a few more days to see if it evens out. Check the blue foam sponge is not releasing micro bubbles by adjusting height.

The other likely culprit is that the bearing bush, part 3000.62, slid up in transport. It just needs to be pushed back in.

Roger, I took it apart and you are correct, the bearing bush was out of the hole about 1/16". I pushed it in so it is flush and I believe that the noise problem is solved. While doing this I noticed that the magnetic rotor and other parts were fairly warm. Is this normal and could the bush being out of place cause abnormal friction and parts wear? Thanks.

The parts being out of place causes added friction, it is doubtful much wear would have occured in a couple days. They are normally warm but not much over normal body temperature so it is not very perceptable.

I have been running mag type power heads and pumps for years and I noticed what I felt was extra heat as soon as I grabbed the 9010 impeller. That's why I am concerned about wear. I will wait for a few days and then check the pump to see if it is running cooler. It could be that the pump normally runs at a higher temp than I am used to. Thanks, it is running very quite now.
