New Acan sp. or possibly Lobo...love the colors

Stacie, I'll get another picture of it this weekend...It got a little upset for a day or two as I had moved it up a bit high in the tank, started to lighten/bleach and suck into itself :(. Once I moved it down to the bottom it plumped back up within a few hours and has looked great ever since. The piece is retaining its great orange but it is getting those greenish/light stripes like in AllDelight's pics. the purple has faded but the green looks really good. I think the purple took a hit in the lighting incident. Eats like a pig and is a great addition to the tank. Given that no one else is getting much in the way of babies, I am not expecting much in the growth department but maybe it will surprise me :D.

DeepSea, nice colony.

Picture as promised. This shot is side view through front glass...different than the above top down shot. You can barely see the neon green feeder tenticles in this shot but they are so cool :)

redFishblue, I can't really remember how the colony looked when Matt cut it for me. Go over to ReefReady.net and click on the picture of the acan in his collector frag section, it is on the first line of pics. The connecting picture is of the whole colony. It is still really hard to tell. I am leaning on the lobo side of the fence but I don't really remember branches per se. According to a few who have similar looking corals that have chimed in on this thread it certainly does not grow more polyps very quick...I am not even sure anyone has gotten their pieces to multiply, split, grow, or make babies. If anyone has let us know :).

Got something similar and my colony was fragged from when I recieved it and it sure looks branching.

. Snap a few pics of fragged area later

Slojmn- I got one from Matt about 3 weeks ago. I am going to go with a Maxima, give it some time and feed it well and it should puff up in the center like all delight. BTW pictures do not do justice to the color of this acan... it is simply amazing! Also just curious what are you feeding it?

Mine has grown quite a bit but not any new polyps. Just bigger in size. Its been about 6 months since I've had it.

I have fed it mysis, cyclopeze, arctic pods, and some stray pieces of Formula 1 frozen, it eats with gusto. My center portion has never puffed up for more than a bit at a time.

I love this piece. I have tried to order thru reefready several times w/no response...oh well I will have to enjoy this thru all of the pictures

Hi,
Sorry about that racerw. If you look on our homepage you can see that our computer was down. We just got a new one because this is like the third time this has happened with that computer in the last year. I am back online and working through the emails. I had two weeks worth when I started. I am down to three more days worth. I should be done by tomorrow. As far as this coral I think it's an unidentified Lobo. Lots of others call it a Maxima so I titled it as that on the site. Either way it is a really nice coral.
