I hear that if one is maintaining one's water appropriately balling, water changes can be viewed potentially as a temporary destabilization of the existing balance. Suboptimal from a stability standpoint.
If I were doing fewer and possibly smaller water changes, I would be more inclined to use a more premium salt, as likely I would be saving money on salt from reduction in frequency of water changes.
However, IMHO, replenishment of trace elements is not all that one accomplishes with a water change. There's also that age old adage "The solution to pollution is dilution".
Even if my dosing were dialed in perfectly, I would be inclined to do say quarterly (every 3 months) water changes just to help export whatever could cause a problem and prevent excessive build up.
