Progress so far: nem is attached to rock! (thanks to 4" PVC coupler).

Tentacles are inflating. And one clown hosted! (took about 30 min)

Lighting is 2 x 25 watt t5ho (actinic) + 1 x 250 watt HQI (not sure on temp). My iPhone really makes everything blue. But this specimens colors are violet/blue base, blue mouth/tentacles and purple dot tips.

Well the Ritteri died today. For some reason it remained deflated, and eventually disintegrated.

I am so freaking ****ed right now. My water parameters were good...I have the lighting and the flow. I also made a rock "cave" on top of the pedestal shown in the pictures above so that I could have some shade.

There was a single baby percula hosting in it happily.

This is total bullsh*t and I absolutely hate all of the know-it-all fat single men on this board who make comments like "these are expert level anemones, maybe your calc fell by 2 mg" or something moot like that so just save it.

It died because it lacks the ability to change conditions once settled, only a few specimens can survive.

You had my sympathy until right here. I'm not fat, nor am I single. And I only give advice when I think it will help. But you go ahead and hate me.

Ha

I don't need sympathy just money as I am broke. I went broke trying to make a home for this anemone! I drove all over the place for supplies to keep it healthy...it was gonna be my pet :headwally:

what kind of lighting is that ? and what are the tank params ??

Lighting: Single 250 Watt HQI + 50 Watts of t5 HO
Water: tested good before nem acclimation
Temp: 80 F

I read about keeping Ritteri for months and tested my tank for the relevant parameters prior to acquiring the Ritteri and acclimation. My other corals are doing as well as they ever have.

Was it moved three times in a short period of time? store> friend> friend > you...? That could have made the acllimation tougher..

Although you are right in that sometimes there is just nothing we can do.. Ensuring that we only get healthy anemones is the only way to guarantee control over its survival.

You're projecting.

I know you're upset and maybe you expect (or even feel you deserve) a scolding. But no one in this thread has done that. The people who offer advice around here, including those who have posted on this thread, are interested in making sure that these animals survive and thrive. Which means that they want you to succeed, if possible.

Lashing out at them and calling names (fat? single? really?) will not motivate others to participate in your threads or offer assistance in the future, should you try this again. (For the record, I am a thin married woman.)

Us old fat guys don't say stuff is hard to get so we can keep them to ourselves. We say things are hard to keep, because we know, we've been there, done that, or seen it happen to others, and are trying to help others save money and lives in this hobby.

BTW, as someone who has been in the Proffesion (not just the hobby) for 11 years, I take that to heart. If it helps, I am 31, about 20lbs overwieght, and am in a commited relationship of 8 years! ;)

Why don't you try to post without the swearing and personal attacks.

And your comments make it really difficult to want to help you, though from trying to help you in another thread, I can't say that I am surprised by your comments.

I have a theory now:

A few months ago I added 20 lbs of sugar fine sand...there was a "mini-cycle" which came and went. The day I hear one was availiable I created the column and anemone "nest", installation of that and disturbing the sand bed could have caused a "micro-cycle" to occur around the anemone alone!

I plan to wait about a year with my current setup and try another one then.

If adding the sand, 2 months ago, and moving some rocks around is all that it took to kill that anemone; either the anemone was already on its way out, or your tank is not established.

I have added sand, moved rocks around, and most recently moved and my anemones have been fine.
