I am over excited about my new purchase so I decided to share with my reefy friends.

This is a picture of our tank currently.. I will post one with my new pretty fishy soon.

Good deal! Where did he come from?

Make sure you get a top on that tank before adding him... I hear they are quite the talented jumpers!

They are ridiculous jumpers! Mine hits the lid at least once a week but I think that's because he and the blenny argue a little bit.

I also have a bluespot jawfish and I absolutely love him (Jaws2).

Congratulations on the purchase!

thanks for all the advice guys! and happy belated bday mel! We're not quite sure if it is indeed a bsj. That's what i was told it was at the store but now i have my doubts, especially since it was so cheap. He matched the typical characteristics at the lfs but now he looks completely different. He's white with subtle grey stripes and blue spots. I'm not sure if he was mislabled? We're thinking he just might be some type of goby? What do you guys think?

ugh.

Sounds like it could be a goby. Cheapest I've seen bluespots was 65-85 in a store and that was a bargain basement price. They're normally like $150+.

The pic that Randy posted above is exactly what mine looks like, though he has a bit of scarring on his back half (I guess from going in and out of a hole or something...before I got him).

One way to tell is that jawfish tend to sit in their holes vertically whereas gobies tend to sit a bit more horizontally (depending on the depth of substrate and how big the fish is and whatnot). My yasa hashe sits at about a 45 degree angle but that's just because of the way the shrimp built the burrow. My jawfish always snakes himself around in there so that his head pops straight up like Oscar the Grouch. That's why Abby and I used to call one of the jawfish at the store Oscar and we'd sing the Mahna Mahna song. Jawfish look like muppets.

Get a picture!

No way! You've got a female yellow watchman. She's cool. I know the exact fish. I sorta see where the confusion came from. But yeah...totally female yellow watchman.

She's actually a much better inhabitant for your tank than the bluespot would have been considering that your tank appears open-topped.

Ok...so now what? Here's what I suggest...we catch Paul's tiger pistol shrimp and put it in your tank, forming one of the coolest things you can have in a reef tank...a goby-shrimp pair. Everyone knows I'm a huge fan of those so I'll definitely try to talk you into keeping her. Hah hah. But like I said, if you want to bring her back, just come see me this weekend. However, I think she's wicked awesome and completely underappreciated but that's just my opinion.

If you do decide you absolutely must have a jawfish you can still keep her!

Thanks for the plug Mel. That pistol is coming out tomrrow-- before the new addition goes in  If you and Randy are playing a joke on me i will not be happy :mad2: The tiger has a new home, so I don't think I can workout anything at this point. And that looks like a female yellow watchman to me too. Beautiful. Wish i could find a bigger female for my male yellow watchman. :love2: But he is rather big for a goby.

Used to love cartoons... :) Cartoon network was the only channel that had any good cartoons left on it... Well, that and Boom... :D

My text had more than one word but the second one I sent him included that word as well.

Literally there was no coordination at all. We both learned that your fish was on the list/was coming in and decided to race to see who could text you first. We both thought to text that single word at the exact same time. He just beat me to the punch...and is more rude.

Back on topic...she still should get a tiger pistol shrimp for that baby girl. She's cute and deserves someone to love her.

I agree- a tiger pistol is indeed a good friend for her, or the cr has some small male yellow watchman that may be good as well.
I wondered how and why, thanks for the incite. Pics are still pending. Def better than a rhomboid or lineatus.

I wish I knew you were looking for a pink margin as I would have offered you mine. And nothing is better than a rhomboid or lineatus:)
