new anemone questions!

so my tank has been set up for 4 years now just beed fish mostly and a 2 clowns water has been perfect for the last year plus so today i decided it was time to get a nem it was a GBTA. before i started getting a bunch of corals! i did alot of reading up on what to look for when buying one! so the one i got was extra sticky they fed him at the store and was eating and the foot looked great no tears or discolorations! i drip acclimated for 3 hours and put him where i wanted him knowing that he would never stay! . but he opened right up in about 5 min and started his walk! i know it was a kinda a light shock he went From PC's to a 250w MH and 2 65w PC, so i expected him to hide under the rocks my question is where he has stopped is a horrible spot back of the tanks and cant even see him! will he move from this spot once he is used to the lights? and second should i feed him once a week or twice! and i was going to feed fresh scallops from the grocery store is that ok???

thanks for all and any help!

He will move from that spot after acclimating to the different light. It might take a week but he will eventually move. As for feeding since he has eaten recently I would not be concerned for awhile. If he should start bleaching then you can begin to worry. I feed every two weeks but they can go along time without feeding with the proper lighting. They always move to worst place, but that is where he likes to be for now. Have your clowns noticed it yet? Congradulations and good luck.

no the clowns have no clue he is there i put him in and he went right under and behind all the rocks lol and the clowns never go back there! hopefully once he decides to show his face they will see him !

Be sure to cover any powerhead intakes that the anemone could wander into. That could spell disaster for your anemone and all the fish (toxins released by the damaged anemone).

Fresh scallops will likely be a good food, to answer your question. Other things you might get at the seafood counter are fresh shrimp, fresh squid, also, occasionally we have fresh smelt here (LA) and anemones seem to like them. At the pet store, look for krill, mysis, and silversides (although some people report bad batches of silversides, so maybe that is one to steer clear of, fortunately I've never encountered a problem personally).

You can acclimate an anemone to brighter light by putting a few layers of plastic fly screen between the lights and the anemone, eggcrate (flourescent light diffuser) can serve as the support. Put maybe 4 or 5 layers and remove a layer every 5 or 6 days. This will allow the anemone to adjust to the increased intensity.

well an update! he has started moving out from hiding and almost came all the way out! once the MH was off he moved out more! Then i left and came home to find one of my clowns in love with him! so all is well! i'm super stoked that one of the clowns is hosting!

Be glad that be only want under the rocks. I woke up this morning with my GBTA on the side of my Crocea clam!

He will move when he feels like it. Trying to move him will only create stress and will most likely make him move somewhere you don't want him to be (speaking from experience)

the best i can do i need photo classes or pointers lol
