New Anemone Tank

Thanks Sciknen,

I added another photo to the blog

So I initially had the MP40W on the left side of the tank, in the center of the pane. The problem was that I couldn't turn it on very high, because it was pointed at the rock structure and would blast the anemones. A friend who came over had suggested moving it, and now it is on the right pane, almost against the back wall. What this did, was create circular flow in the tank. The flow is now around the rock structure. This has done a few great things.

1. it allowed me to turn the flow WAY up by comperison. Before, it was all the way down. Although, I don't really want HIGH flow, it's nice to get movement in the tank.
2. It moved the pump pretty much out of view.
3. The flow pattern discourages the nems from settling on the back of the rockscape, and brings them more to the front.

Here are some pics:

Awsome looking tank, did you cycle it or did you add fully cured live rock? how many days did you wait to add the bts?

I got an empty solana 20" cube I could do something similar to it

I did not cycle this tank, since I used dry rock and sand, and plumbed it into an existing system. Since I added no live elements, there was no reason to wait for a spike in ammonia. Basically, I just added water volume to an existing system. I had the nems in another tank and moved them in a few days later. (you can look at my blog if you want the exact number of days, although it was like 2 or 3).

Normally, I would wait much longer before introducing nems to a new tank. There is plenty of biological filtration in the system as well as ample skimming. Just make sure your system is stable first, and you'll be fine. Are you using the disco ball lighting?

Have you decided what type of clowns for this tank yet or is it going to be simply an anemone display. It is quite beautiful either way!

Such a beautiful tank deserves a natural hosting clownfish IMO. What a wonderful scene to display some akindynos or melanopus! Both hardy and unusual. Just an idea. Black and white ocellaris would still be a great addition in that setup! "I know what's on your mind Kazanski, just get on it!"

I'm just worried that an orange CF species will be drowned out by the orange and pink nems, so I don't know if I want to go that route. The last thing I want is to start chasing 2 fish in that tank and remove them.

I hear you there. You know I don't know why I didn't mention this species before but the best looking clown I've ever had in a rose anemone was allardi!
I had a young pair in a 60 gallon cube with a large 12+ inch rose for some time and it was a spectacular display. Their yellow and black coloration really stood out amongst all the pink, not to mention as they aged they developed that really cool blue striping similar to chrysopterus.

sooooooooo,

Someone, and I don't want to say who, added the wrong clownfish to their shopping cart :(

so, instead of Black and White Occilaris, I got 2 clarkiis. I wasn't sure about them, but they are absolutely beautiful, so they went in :)

The both went into a nem immediately, so hopefully they stay.

i think clarki's are so underated as a clown fish. Not the most popular in the hobby but they are one of my favorite esp the blue stripe.. so pretty
