New Anthias

Well Sone(slovan) wanted a pic of the Dispar Anthias I just got, so here are a couple, they do suck. I've never been able to get a decent full tank shot.

So far the only thing they will eat is frozen Cyclops, they are starting to pick at some Formula 1 flakes. They still all hang around in one corner of the tank, I got them out with food;)

Thanks for sharing! :) Good color and size, they look nice in your tank.

I've really gotta make a trip to see that tank.......I've got a 64 gallon cooler that might fit everything I want

Wow...I didn't realize how hard it was to get a good picture of them. Thanks for taking the time to take yours Allen! I took a bunch of shots and these two were the best I've been able to take so far. I have 8 Lyretails in total, 2 males and 6 females. I'll probably get about 4 more females but will wait a little bit to see how these do first.

Yeah, its not easy to get a good pic of them, my pics were 2 out of over 20 I took!! The Lyretails look good!!

Good news is, mine are eating frozen and dry Cyclopeeze like crazy and are starting to show a lot more interest in flake/pellet foods. I think these guys might just do ok. So far I have not noticed any changes from the additional feedings, tested PO4 and NO3 tonight, still undetectable.

It will be interesting to see what your coral colors do since you have been feeding more.

I know now that I feed slightly more then I think I should be my colors have gotten better and polyp extension has improved.

I must be the only one with bad luck getting healthy specimens. I'm glad you guys haven't had any problems.

Sone, You think it will be alright to add more to your existing ones? I'd like to hear your experience/results when you do.

I don't know if it'll be alright or not but there's one way to find out right? :D I'll keep you posted if/when I get more. I want to keep what I have for a month or so and then decide.

FWIW, I have added a female to an existing group with no major problems. She clearly went to the bottom of the pecking order and spent some initial time being chased around by the male and other females, but she adjusted a lot quicker than I would have thought and was eating within a day or two.

Thanks for the input jdreefer! :) I hope to have a similar experience to yours if I add anymore to the tank.

How is your 120 is coming along? Also, what kind of anthias do you have?

I have lyretails. I started out with 3:1 females and it seemed that the male was sometimes beating them up pretty good. so I decided to add one more. After I added the 4th female, it appears that the male doesn't have enough time in the day to get around to harassing any individual female very much.

The 120 is not coming along nearly as well as I would have hoped by now. For a while it was a comedy of errors, although not really very funny to me. There are no longer any SPS in my 120, although I have a few doing pretty well in the 40 with T5s. Between a magnificent foxface and coral beauty angel, the two of them decided one day to team up and wipe out all caps in my tank. I then had a closed loop i installed leak on me. I had it shut down for a while. Around the same time I purchased the above mentioned anthias and several expensive wrasses and began overfeading the tank. Before i knew it, I had measurable phosphates and nitrates in the tank. I also somehow introduced nudibranches into my tank as well, so there went some of the zoos I had.

For the last several months, I have been trying to leave the tank alone, doing more water changes, trying to cut back on the feedings, and not adding anything much to the tank. The newest puzzle is that I can't seem to keep the alkalinity up in the tank and the calcium is through the roof.

The next venture into SPS (except for the few in the 40) may have to wait until a new house, with a bigger tank, no miracle mud, a phosphate reactor, and a calcium reactor.

Dang dude, sorry to hear about your tank. :( Just stick with it and it'll turn around. It seems like this hobby will sometimes take you to the highest of highs and lowest of lows.

To fix your low alkalinity and high calcium problem, I think it's outlined in this article. Check out the zone 4 problem.
