Is it possible to just buy the brain of the apex I had mind for a couple years now a days it is very unreliable.

Give them a call. They will repair it for you. I had to send mine in to get fixed. I think it cost up to like $75

OP, I don't know what symptoms you are encountering when you say "unreliable" to really offer better advice.

...but, another thing to perhaps consider with supposed controller failures is it may not just be hardware -- but firmware. If you've not updated your firmware in a couple of years, well, that is the first thing I would do before considering buying a replacement unit. Things are updated and improved on a continual basis with Neptune's free releases. Should you decide to upgrade your firmware, as was suggested, be sure to backup your programming before attempting it. There are more hints and tips on updating over on Neptune Systems Community forums in the Firmware subforum.

You can buy a brain separately. I did and keep one on hand pre-programmed just in case I ever have an issue with my Apex. While I have 4 or more trouble free years on my Apex, I figure you can't be too prepared and as such, have a pretty big inventory of spares from Apex components to pumps. All of which are ready go. Heck, even my spare pumps have the unions installed so I can swap them out in a moments notice with only a couple minutes down time.

I have the latest firmware, every now and then my apex would read temp 19 and ph 2.0 so you can see the headache that can cause.

If you can be without the base unit for a week or two, you could contact Neptune for a RMA and it sounds like something they could repair, for not many $$. I had 4-yr old base unit start reading erratic pH values and it was an easy/cheap fix.

If you don't want to go without the base unit, you can always buy a new one and swap it out. Then send the old one in for repair. That way you'd have a spare on hand.
