New Apex Constant PAR Monitor?

AZBigJohn

Usually confused...
Just wondering if anyone has seen this "in person"?

A little pricey, (what on APEX isn't) but I can see eventually controlling your lights by shooting for certain PAR levels at certain times of the day...

I know SWJ got 3 of the first 4 shipped to AZ and they still had 2 in stock when I was there on Tuesday. I am not sure if they are planning on running one on their tanks but it is the only place to go get one right now as I heard the 4th in state was a custom order for someone.

I think it looks pretty good, most of the price has to be just the fact it can be used with your Apex instead of stand alone, and maybe the little purple rock it comes in to hide it. I would assume the main reason for constantly monitoring PAR would be to know when your MH/T5 bulbs start to fade and need to be replaced, otherwise Im not sure what else would make your par change.

I acquired one last week. It's definitely a well built, integrated, useful addition to the Apex Controller, in my opinion ...

For years, I've utilized the MQ-200 PAR Meter from Apogee Instruments, and consider it an integral piece of equipment; at least for the advanced. Essentially, this new offering from Neptune Systems is the Apogee PAR sensor itself, with an innovative, precut piece of Real Reef® rock sheltering/hiding it, which plugs directly into the Apex; via their new Advanced Sensor Module (ASM).

The craftsmanship of the Real Reef rock itself is spot on, wire holder outlined as well, providing as much of an integrated look and feel as you'll find in a semi-permanent PAR sensor ... While I still use my Apogee MQ-200, for specific applications and locations, the new PMK PAR sensor accessory has proved to be invaluable for long-term testing durations, i.e. a few different light cycle/lighting scheme applications, which are/can be otherwise logistically difficult with the aforementioned MQ-200 sensor alone. Some other hobbyists, myself included, have custom-fabricated solutions to these issues, but the new PMK/ASM package solves nearly all those issues in an integrated, well designed solution ...

I've done some extensive cross-testing testing thus far, given the timeframe and an otherwise busy schedule, concluding that it's PAR values are accurate compared to the Apogee Instruments MQ-200. Which, it's essentially an Apogee PAR sensor that integrates directly into the Apex, via the new ASM module, versus to a stand-alone meter for value readings.

Hope thats helped answer any questions, etc you had wondering about it ... Let me know if I can assist further in your decision, whether or not to purchase, and I'll gladly help out : )
