new apex web question

Hi,

I just received my new apex yesterday. I have it set up with a wireless gaming adapter and I am able to access it through my home network. Although, I have not been able to access it outside my home network yet. I have read the all the user guides and still having a little trouble. any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is what I did so far:

I gave my apex a static IP and changed the port to 8080.
I set up port forwarding to allow my new apex ip and port.
I created a dyndns account directing to my new apex static ip. (i think this might be my problem)

Thanks,

Pat

Welcome to Club Apex, Pat!

The dyndns host record must have your public IP address as assigned by your ISP, not the actual private address of the Apex. Did you configure the dyndns updater in your router?

thanks guys, I just changed to my public ip. Now I get a login page when using my iphone but then times out after I enter username and password.

I did not configure the dyndns updater on my router. do i do that from my router setup or the dyndns account?

Also, can you please try to see if you can log on, patapex.dyndns-free.com:8080

Works fine. Now change that username & password! :)

If your router supports DynDNS updates, then you enable that feature in the router, and enter the hostname, username, and password you used when you created the DynDNS account.

Most routers today do support DynDNS updating; if your router doesn't, then there are other avenues to explore. Having some sort of DynDNS updater running is important... that's how DynDNS's servers learn that your public IP has changed (if & when it does change)

thanks Russ,

I beleive my router supports dyndns updates it is a lynksys wrt54g. I entered my dyndns username and password, but do I need to enter a host name?

Thanks Russ for all your help. I just connected using my phone.

one last thing, can I change my username and password on line or do I have to do it from my apex unit. I saw the option on the display unit but have not seen the option online.

Admin username & password change via the web interface is now available in the v4.05 beta firmware. If you don't want to upgrade to the beta, you'll need to use the display menu to make the change.
