Looks nice. Just don't blast it with to much light. Looks bigger than a frag. Feed it once in a while. Most of these that don't make it are usually a goner in the the first 3 months. Keep alk and calcium stabil.

Thanks! Will do. It's currently sitting between the two fixtures under the shadow of the rim brace. So we will see.

What are the signs I should be watching for if its getting too much light?

I love them.
I have never understood the common thought that they dont live long ? I think they get a bad rep.
I have 3 of these beauties and they are all about 2 yrs old.
Medium light, medium flow and they will thrive. They are fast growers too. Just remember they are extremely aggressive corals, so make sure you don't put anything too close to it because the Elegance will win for sure.
I do feed my tank with Reef Roids twice a week and also use Seachem Trace and Plus.
I don't target feed at all, just water column feed.
Good luck, it certainly looks lovely and healthy.

Easy to keep when healthy at the start, there was a block of years the majority we saw arrive stateside would slowly die in the same system other LPS thrived.

You can find years of evidence of results and speculation on RC.

I have been out since 2012 and I surely hope conditions have changed as Elegance are one of my favorites since getting into the hobby long ago.

Lots of speculation I've read have been pointing the finger at GFO. Which makes some amount of coincidental sense, since 15-20 years ago elegance corals were considered beginner corals. No one used GFO back then.

But I dunno. Something has def happened between then and now.

It's common knowledge that the non Aussie elegance are now collected from deeper water thus not acclimated to everyones new lights . The Aussie are better collected and better able to handle the brighter lights

I run carbon and GFO 24/7 and mine have grown and thrived for years now. So thinking that is purely specualtion.

I have no idea why theres a problem with imported elegance stateside, especially the Indonesian ones.

Regarding depth and habitat, Australian ones are collected from diverse habitats from silty muddy bottoms, to shallow turbid water to shallow clear water, and some in deeper clear water. The ones offered from a major Queensland exporter are usually intact small cats ie they haven't been fragged. While this doesn't make a difference locally, it might be worthwhile avoiding fragged cats in the states as it's just one more hurdle for the corals to overcome.

Best of luck with yours Bent!

I would rather have the frag. But with that being said a frag from a Hobbiest as they are already adapted and thriving. I would not want to buy a frag from an importer as it is one more thing to go wrong. And by the way I frag my indo all the time I have fraged it 20 times with no losses. Next I will try the aussie as I have had it almost 3 years and it is getting to big

Light acclimation from readings as stated before. Also need to receive a healthy specimen not on its way out.
