I am personally in the middle of this and doing the same. hob overflow box (either lifereef/sapphire)
difference for the two are price, max flow rate, known reliability
information behind solution:
chamber 1 is the ONLY chamber that will stay at the same water height so this is the chamber the internal box will have to go in
- it should resolve the issue with air bubbles from lack of flow or a water height issue
so lifereef and sapphire nano overflow internal boxes should fit properly
overflow box > drain to sump > custom king sump > return > two outputs
drain and return will be 3/4"
depending on which overflow i pick i will have to go with either quiet one 1200 (~215gph) or mag 5 ~296gph after 4' headloss and 2 outputs
calculator is on reefcentral home page on the left side of navigation
for your above answer about power outage. sump should always accommodate that worry with enough available space to cover any back siphon if the power goes out.
it's all about proper planning.
i would say make sure it will have enough to hold an extra 2-3 gallons of water MAX
