i'll be picking up my first blasto this week and am looking for information about it's best placement etc. I have a 55G tall (20") with 250W 10K MH and two 36W helio T5 actinics.

the layout has changed slightly since this was taken, but there are lots of lower light and high light areas. I'm also going to cross my fingers and bring home a gonipora...red mini. Any help on this one would also be very appreciated.

that pics looks like a candy cane (caulestra). A better pic would help. I have had both. If it is a blasto good luck with it. They have been hit or miss recently.

He does not have the blasto yet.

I have had a 50% survival with blastos. Mine have seemed to fair well in medium flow with 250w lighting. Even then blastos are a crap shoot.

okay...time to clarify...the link shows various pictures of my tank layout...it just happens that the first picture is of my candycane, xenia and whatever else. I haven't picked up the blastos or gonipora yet. My LFS is hanging on to them in order for them to settle from the original shipping. What I am asking is where in the tank should they go when I do bring them home. Thanks again...Kat

blasto's belong in the sand or just low in the tank... not in direct light of mh's either... yeah med flow and it helps to target feed them... just make sure the specimen is super healthy otherwise thaty won't make it in most cases...

thank you thank you thank you!!! this is what I was looking for. when I bring it home I will post a pic.

so here's the blasto and the gonipora...in my LFS, the blasto was under VHO and actinic combos, but I don't know what color temp they were. It definately had a more burgandy color to the rim than they are at my place...too much light?

imo the color/species morph of these blastos seem to be one of the easier of the blastos that i get in at the shop.they seem to be easier to keep for us.i can get in red ones that look identical and the will poop out where these are doing fine.

Nice corals. Glad to see you got a red goni and not a green. Reds/Pinks and blues seem to do alot better in the home reef. Nice blastos.
