New Blue S. Gigantea

So I just got this beauty yesterday. I'm totally excited to have one but the BIG PLUS was this afternoon.

My clowns that I've had for a year, that have showed no interest in my bubbles did this.

Guess they like it. Also I believe it looks healthy what do others think.

Thanks

Great looking gig! It looks good for a new gig. Having cipro on hand is always a must with newer gigs though. Hopefully you don't need it. Best of luck!

Thanks. The clowns were hand picked from Alpha Aquaculture.

I'm not a 100% if they were his or someone elses.

The male is a full helmet. I'll try to post a pic of him.

Those look nicer than Balis Picassos. Looks to be American bred Picassos (Doni's)????

Great carpet by the way.

The clown in the photo has a slightly wider/puffier mouth. Also, helmet to the side instead of straight down on the head. Both are very common traits on BA clowns...not exclusive but I have seen more clowns that looked like that from BA than other breeders, at least here in SoCal. They are commonly sold as Black Cap Picasso clowns.

I'll try to snap a photo of the male tonight.

Also last night was a little concerned as the gig deflated a tad and both clowns were pretty hot and heavy with it. So I woke this morning and ran downstairs and this what I saw :)

Okay I just had to post a couple of more pics. I'm happy to say that the slight deflating was probably due to the two clowns bonding or hosting.....I've never seen clowns rub an anemone so much. The clowns have definitely stopped their nonstop rubbing marathon.

Also yes I'm somewhat bragging. But I'm totally happy. I have a unwritten rule that I won't purchase an anemone unless I've seen it with my two eyes before purchasing one. So you can understand how long I've waited for a blue gig...and then have my hand picked clowns host it. ...my wife says I have to stop drooling.

Anyways some more pics

When I left for our trip out to my in-laws it seemed like it was enjoying life. So I would say good. Then on Thursday when I had my tank siiter check on my tank and I noticed that he moved my vortech up on one side of the tank. He might have also feed it too.

Anyways it appeared that it deflated or at least shrunk back into the area between two rocks that it had attached to, a couple hours after he did this. Then this morning when i checked on it (through wifi camera) it was back to full size. Then i noticed when my pumps where ramped all the way up around 11 am that it did its shrinking betwern the two rocks.

Tonight the tank was cleaned (6 to 8) and I noticed at (9:30) that it had swelled back up and looked like it normall did.

I would say that it has ever deflated it just sometimes will shrink and hide in its crevice. Not sure if this has been others experience?

The only time it has done the shrinking is once was when the clowns were first bonding with it. And now again when the pump was moved.

It's appears that it doesn't want much flow or wants to dictate what it wants for flow.

We return home tomorrow night so hopefully everything is back good. It was great when I left it.

At night Gigantea can shrink down to about 70-80% of normal. This is fine. Your anemone looks healthy.
I love those clowns. I wish I can buy clowns like those here in TX

Got home last night around 9:15, Light start dimming at 9:30. It was open but almost like it was protecting it's mouth in the crevice it has itself in. Checked on it right before I went to bed and it was fully open with half it's self in the flow from the pump.

This morning it moved around to the back of the rock :( but was fully open :). Guess it was in the process of moving yesterday. We'll see where it moves to tonight or if it like it where it is.

I think the changing of the pump on the other side of the tank played a a major roll in the shrinking.

Looks good now.

The clowns were hand picked from Alpha Aquaculture. It took some doing in getting the pair, i.e. talking the owner into selling them.

I don't know if he raised them or if they were purchased from someone else.
