New BTA and Perculas???

So I have had this pair of Perculas for quite a while, I like them, but recently chose to give a BTA a try, and had plans to trade in the Perculas for a pair of Yellow Stripe Maroon Clowns, but came home last night to find this....

Guess I don't need to trade them in now, I thought for sure they would never go near it, and I really wanted that Clown/Anemone look in my tank, so I was dead set on getting maroons, but I am pretty happy they all of a sudden took a liking to it...its the coolest thing ever! I am pretty happy, and Im glad they chose to make the BTA thier home...The BTA crawled down under the rocks prior to the clowns paying attention to it, it looks like its happy where it is, I am hoping it will come out more...This is my first BTA...Excited that I got Perculas to take to a BTA...sweet!

P.S....don't look at the algea...lol, Tank was neglected for a while, and am in the process of cleaning it up, wasn't going to post the pic, but figured everyone has delt with algea issues before, so its not super embarassing...lol:beer:

That looks pretty sweet. Glad you're keeping the percula. I've kept both and I think the percula has much better personality than the GSM. My GSM were mean and nasty.
I like the orange tip on that bubble tips.

Thanks! I am stoked that I am able to keep them, I specifically picked out this BTA cause of the orange tips, Seemed like the Rose/Red types where so popular I wanted something different.

I saw at a local shop (different than the one I got this one from) had ones that where simular that they where selling as "Hybrid BTA"...when I asked what that ment, they just said, a hybrid between a Rose and Green BTA...I didn't know that was possible cuase they reproduce via division right? they split...So I was curious how you could get a cross between a red and green...I tried doing some searching as I have seen a couple of other people ask about the Orange tipped Greens before, but havn't seen really any info on them.

Anyway, I like it, its different, an Orange Tipped Green BTA with Percs, not the norm...which is exactly what I was hoping for...something different...

The orange is actually more intense in person...and so is the green...but my phone doesn't take the best pics...

Awesome! I know that feeling too and there really is nothing quite like watching clowns rolling around and diving in and out of an anemone. It is really easy for me to understand people who set up dedicated clown/anemone tanks. No worries about the algae, we all have been there lol.

question...
how rare is this anemone compared to a rose bta (red)

I am pretty new to BTA, but I would say the one you pictured is pretty bleached out, if I was a betting man, I would bet that in time that one would color up to be a nice Red BTA from the looks of it, but I could be wrong.

White and Anemone usually doesn't go well together, I would say that one pictured is pretty bleached....maybe someone with more expereince will chime in...Keep us posted if the color changes...

those are some happy clowns. she really likes nibbling on it doesn't she? lol

You would have thought she was a baby calf nursing on an utter in a past life, everytime I look she is sucking on one of the tenticles like it was a pacifier...LOL:lmao:

They seem to really like it, I fed it for the first time last night, and this morning it looks like I might have to move some corals around again, it looks like it didn't quite like that spot it was in, and might be on the move, too bad I really liked it where it was, but oh well, I will let it do its thing and hopefully it will find a spot that it likes...

I'm glad your percs took to the BTA. Very nice anemone too, btw.

You asked how "hybrids" could occur. BTAs reproduce by both sexual and asexual reproduction. So, it's possible that different color morphs of BTAs could sexually reproduce and consequently the offspring could have coloring characteristics of both parents. That's not a hybrid, it's simply sexual reproduction within the species. Hybrid would suggest you were mating two different species, which isn't the case with RBTAs/GBTAs, both are E. quadricolor.

Awesome, Thanks for the reply, Have you ever seen a mix of the two? or are BTA just so variable that you might not be able to tell? These where simular maybe just a bit more orangey red at the tips...They where interesting, but nobody really seemed to know much about them in the shop, so I didn't go for it, and they where really small in size as well. But they where interesting, I have seen the "Rainbow" ones, or multicolored ones, but never heard of any of them being called "Hybrids" or "Crosses".

Thanks for the reply...
