Hey All-

I bought a great Red Bubble-Tip anemone about 3 weeks ago and it arrived looking fantastic on March 17th. Fully Extended, it is about the size of my fist.

He has been sitting on a piece of rock looking great - flow looks good, lights look good, parameters have looked great across the board.

After about a week I fed him some frozen table shrimp and 3 days ago I fed him some frozen mysis shrimp/powdered coral foods. He had a hearty meal.

The day after I fed him, he went on the underside of the rock (it's a bridge, so essentially he's hanging upside down in the shade). A day or two after hiding, I noticed he has split and both parts are on the underside of the rock.

Timeline:

March 17th - Arrival
March 22nd - Light feed w/ table shrimp
March 29th - Feed with Frozen Mysis/Powdered goodies
March 30th - Hide
April 1st - Split

Should I be freaking out... happy .. sad? Both parts are staying under the rock for now and I am letting them be.

Can you list Your "Good" Parameters
Phosphates and nitrates is what i care about

Think I found the problem: Alk = 7.0

Everything else is in line

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 2 (Red Sea)
Phos - undetectable using API
pH - 8.2 (varies throughout day but looks good on APEX)
Salinity - 1.026
Temp - 79.3

I was playing with APEX a week or so ago and plugged the Alk Doser into wrong port... and here we are. I'm going to slowly bring it back up over the course of a week... am I correct in assuming that the RBTA should will do okay in that transition back to 9-10 range?

Alk of 7 is fine, as long as it is stable. If it dropped quickly from 9 or 10, that could have stressed the nem. If you want your alk higher, just be sure to bring it up slowly.

My guess is that it has gradually fallen from 9-10 over the course of 2 weeks. I'd imagine a 2 point drop is still pretty significant though.

Are you suggesting that Alk isn't necessarily the reason it split? I'd love to think that it split for a good/indifferent reason :)

This is a big site. There are all level of reefers here from thinking of a tank to established tank 30+ years
