the loss of PAR moving to 14K will probably be offset by the increase of a new bulb. Since he's right under the bulb at the surface I think the 250 should be plenty. You might lower the light a little closer to the water if you are comfortable doing so.

I find that magnificas are much more prone to wander with bluer light regardles of the par and have heard a few stories of them starting to wander after a bulb change. I would keep your old bulb on hand just in case.

agree with Flighty and Traveller7.. my H. Mag definately preferred the 10K over 14K but adjusted(it at first wandered like flighty said under a bluer MH bulb).. i noticed bettor color and growth under 10K but some of my corals couldnt adjust.. i now have 14K over the tank and it seems to like it just fine..id go 10K XM..

Just wondering if anyone elses wanders when the actinics are on even if the main MH is on? Mine does and the one I lost in the tank crash did too. That would signify to me that they can detect the blue in the light not just the intensity. It would make sense if that would be how they determined their depth.

no wandering here with just actinics.. this happened only at first when i swithched from 10K to 14K it settled and it stopped wandering..
