New camera in the budget, water friendly :-)

So I recently got married and we will be doing our honey moon soon and want a camera that we can use in and out of the water. Any suggestions would be great. I have been looking at the sealife dc1400, seems like an easy camera to use in the water and a pretty good camera for night life shots and backyard shots. Any recommendations would be great!

olympus is about to release the XZ-2.

since this newer model is about to be released, the XZ-1 is/was on amazon for $199, which is a stellar price (might have been a one day deal) for the amount of camera you get.

the housing: PT-050 is reasonably priced, can be had for under $250 new.

thats $450 for a "competitive" underwater setup, which is about where the DC-1400 is priced.

I've used the XZ-1 for a year and a half, still learning. its a very robust p&s camera, with many features if you are familiar with advanced settings. i prefer to carry it with me on vacation so i dont have to lug around a full DSLR.

customer service has been spot on as well.
go check out the reviews.

i think you'd be disappointed with the DC-1400 out of the water, it only has a 2.8 F-stop, low light performance wont be good. the Oly has a 1.8 stop and stellar low light performance.

the PT-050 has a 67mm threaded port on the front if you decide to get more serious and want to add a wide angle, or macro lens.

there's a whole host of other "shortcomings" with the DC-1400 as its marketed as an entry level camera...wont have a bunch of features like S-TTL, zooming while shooting video, etc.
dont get me wrong, it'll still crank out some decent UW pics, but if its a true multi use camera your looking for, probably want to stay open to more options.

good luck on your honeymoon :)
