Last weekend I decided to buy a new digital camera. Our old camera was starting to shutoff out of nowhere and with the new baby, having a working camera is not option, its a necessity. I have been looking at the entry level dslr's for a while, but did not have a true need to buy one. I was originally going with a Canon xti, but after doing a "field" test, I decided that I like the Nikon's feel better so I was looking around for the right price on the d40x. I was still a little weiry because of the lack of focus motor in the body, but in the end $$ won out. I found a D40 for $400, refurbished. Considering the differences between the d40x and the d40, I thought buying the d40 and spending the left over on a new lens was probably the best way to go for me.
Also last weekend I picked up some new frags, I was long overdue on picking up some corals from racermike. I contacted him in early January, and he has been holding a couple of pieces for me (thanks Mike). BTW, I just want to make sure everyone knows that we did have the discussion going on since early January, it was not an attempt to circumvent fairplay at the fragswap. I am very happy with the corals I bought, the green slimer had a little bit of color loss on one side when I got it , but its mostly healed now.
When looking at the pics keep in mind I am fighting an uphill battle with taking pictures. Also my coral's coloring look better in person then they do in the pics. If any of you have seen Mikes GreenSlimer, you will understand below.
Here are my battles when it comes to the camera
1 - I suck at taking pictures
2 - I have the kit lens right now
3 - I do not know how to properly WB my pictures yet
4 - I have a bowfront
Anyway these are my first pics with the camera, I am happy to get these results without really even trying.
This one is not actually a frag from Mikes tank, this is something I have had since december/november ish, I think I got it from Matt and he called it the Ora Blue green tort
Green slimer, behind it is a blue tenius, I did not get any good pictures of the tenius so I am listing it here.
Look at the one in the center, Oregon Blue Tort
Not really sure, is this a blue mille? Dont laugh, I ended up seeing a bunch of stuff I like and cannot keep it all straight in my head.
This picture was to focus on the sunset monti on the right. If you look hard enough all the way to the left is a 30000 leagues lokani
Pink Millie, once again another coral I did not get a good pic of was the rainbow granulosa, which is in the background
