Well, this camera is the best Nikon has produced for the money, $600. It outperforms the D50 and D70. It has many of the same features as the D80 including the 2.5" jumbo screen. However, the D40 is 6mp, vs the D80 at 10mp. An attractive feature of the D40 is the compact, lightweight body!

In April, a D40x will be on the market. Same as D40 but with higher price tag of about $750 and at 10mp.

I have read several reviews before buying one and all have been positive. If you are looking to buy a new digital, consider this lil guy. It

My favorite review is from this guy. He also includes links to buy the camera (I bought mine from Adorama they have great prices on all camera stuff). He also has reviews for many of the Nikon accessories, including a good flash to use with this camera.

Nice pics. we have a D70 that is now 2 yrs. old, we were looking at the D80 just the other day. I think I will wait for the D40x $$$$ big differance in price. Still saving for the macro lens so I can get real close shots.

Vince, I purchased some macro filters for the standard lens. I am hopeful they will work nicely. The cost is about $30, compared to $300+ for a Nikon true macro lens. I will post pics when the filter arrives.

Nice pics Scott. I'm definitely looking forward to your review of the macro filters. I haven't bought a macro lens for my Canon Rebel yet because I keep finding other stuff to spend my money on...

I wish I could just find the money to spend on other stuff, lol, Mike

Good one John. Hopefully we'll be buying a house before our lease expires in July, so now everything extra is getting saved for that 5-10% down. ;)

Nice shots.. I just bought a D40 last night and going from a digital Sony H1 is going to be hard. I need to get used to not being able to use the LCD to focus on photos... It will take time, but the SLRs have allot of potential when you learn them.

By the way, where did you get your macro filters and can you tell me which ones you bought?

Thanks and again great photos....

I bought a set of Hoya on Ebay. I paid about $28. I just got back in town and have not yet tried them out. I have to clean the tank glass and check some water parameters, but all looks pretty good with no major losses.

The goldfish died though. Probably from depression. He went from the solo fish in a 110tall to a 1 gallon tank. Sorry fella, sold the tank and you were not wanted, though I offered.
