New carpet in my basement

So I'm having a new carpet installed in my basement in the room with the tank. The tank really can't be moved at this point because corals are attached to many rocks. I'm going to go around the tank and unfortunately leave the old stuff underneath it. I had a 5 gallon spill about a year ago and my room smells fine when the humidity is at appropriate levels. Anyone else ever do this and if so, how was the end result?

If you might move sometime in the future have the installers leave you enough so that you can patch it.

I'd love to tile it, but after I did my bathroom I realized how much work it would take to do that to this room. Paying someone would be outrageous. Actually, I like the carpet and I'm a neat freak down there and I vac all the time. My basement is pretty dry as far as a basement goes. Maybe because it has a couple full size windows in the finished portion.
