New Chameleons

That is a cool setup Daniel. I may have to contact him sometime. I would love to see what he has. If you think that crash looks bad try a 90 size. lol

Dirtball, when I was keeping them before I basically got burned out. I am starting slow, maybe I'll get more eventually. Keeping the crickets alive was the biggest problem. I was ordering them and to have half of them die overnight sometimes was annoying. I am seriously thinking of ordering some Dubia roaches. From what I have read they are easy to get a colony going and are more nutritious than crickets. Of course I am going to suppliment with other insects as well.

I just never got into reptiles.....I've been thinking about raising birds again, but with the new puppy being sick still and two bird killing dogs, I don't know if I can.....It was harsh enough watching my parrot die in my hands a few weeks back because of the puppy, Cracker jumped down right into shark pool, he's an escape artist, I knew I should of gotten him a new cage.....So I'm down to two parrots now, Willie and Dixie. At least they have tight latches on their doors.....

Mike, IF I do think about raising them again, I would try to find Dixie a husband cause she wants to mate really bad, she does her little dance routine on a weekly basis. She's learned a few new words like "Hey Baby" and "Hi Willie".

My aunt raised African Greys for YEARS... built buildings for them and everything... and then she got into Eclectus, too, but got out when her first grandchild came along... heh... A LOT of work to raise them, but some serious profit can be made as well. I think she sold hers for like $1200 and that was back in 1992-2000 or so. Pretty crazy.

Anyway... sorry guys...

Brandon

Unfortunately I lost the female Jacksons as well. I decided to do a necropsy to see if she was pregnant and to hopefully find out what killed her. As soon as I cut her open tremetodes (flukes) started oozing out. There were a huge number in there. I doubt if I would have taken her to the vet that he could have done anything.

The baby veiled is doing very well. I took his cage outside on Tuesday and he loved the sun. I can't wait till it gets warmer, they like to be outside.

Hey guys, just a little update. I bred my 2 veileds together and the female layed eggs about 9 months ago. Last weekend they finally started hatching. I only have 8 right now but probably 15-20 or so eggs left. (you know, don't count your chameleons before they hatch) They are doing well and I need to get some pictures but have just been too busy lately.

Here are some pictures. The last two are the proud parents. Actually they haven't even met the kids. They would probably eat them anyway. :fun5:

That's awesome! Thanks so much for sharing those pics! Those little guys look great!

How many did you have hatch out?

Brandon

I have 3 veileds left. I lost a few for some reason. The ones that came out of one egg container were kinda scrawney and most of them died. I took a few to Emerald Bay and traded them for a female baby panther.

Here is one of the veileds

I was at Aquatic Critter yesterday and spotted these pygmy leaf chameleons and had to have them. I have been wanting some for a long time but haven't seen them recently. I threw an enclosure together really quick so it isn't really pretty. It was a 30 gal. reef tank with an external overflow originally. I cleaned it out really fast so the glass is still a little dirty.

Setting up the pygmy tank made me want to do a dart frog tank since they are similar. I am going to get some different ground cover since the females dig holes to lay their eggs and that would be difficult in the moss.

I am thinking of selling the three baby veileds if anyone is interested. If not I may see if they want them at Emerald Bay.

Id be interested in a baby vieled... Ive never had 1 & would have to throw a house together for it but it shouldnt take to long.

They are probably 2 1/2 -3 inches from nose to base of tail. They are almost two months old now. They are eating 1/4" crickets.

I just bred them again so I will hopefully be having some more eggs in about a month. :)

Not able to commit to buying any "right" now as the swap is almost upon us and I have been saving my pennies for a coral experience but would be interested in the next hatch or if you still have any little ones at the end of Feb. My son would really like to have one but I will have to build a habitat first.

Mike,

Those babies are really cute!!!! Too bad I'm just not a reptile person. In the coming days I may breed Dixie. I'm not sure if you know this or not. She is on endangered species list. I've found a male from a breeder friend, but not sure if he is the one yet (He killed his last mate, BUT he have mated before with a different female and was fine). I'm not sure if I want to take that risk. Once I upgrade my tank and get rid of some tanks I may look into finding another suitable male if that one don't work.

I went ahead and took them to Emerald Bay yesterday. I really needed the space and they were growing fast. Soon I would have had to separate them into their own cages which I don't have room for right now. I am planning on taking down a tank that is plumbed into my reef that doesn't have anything into it for some extra room but that will take a complete redo.

The pygmies are doing well and have gained quite a bit of weight since I got them. One of them has an eye problem but he is still eating well so maybe it will heal.
