new chocolate tang

this is a joke, right? chocolate in a 30 gallon??? that's all I will say, everyone can follow in later...

I've had a chocolate for over a year that's not grown more than about 1/2", and it's stayed in the 2-3" range all that time (in my 150 gallon setup). Definitely a smaller tang, but probably not best suited for a 30 gallon long term. Consider another fish, or better yet, upgrading the tank!

lets see some pics :) I have one that is a good 4-5" and still waiting for it to change to adult colors..he is starting slightly.. pics pics pics

Looks like a mimic lemon peel tang to me

agreed, though they're both Acanthurus pyroferus, so it's mostly just semantics of the common name based on the color morph.

If it was a mimic lemon peel wouldnt it have blue around the eye?

Does look like a "Lemonpeel Mimic", but like someone said they are all Acanthurus pyroferus weather its Yellow Mimic Tang, Half Black Mimic Tang, Lemonpeel Mimic or Chocolate....Can someone clear this up?....Blue Zoo Aquatics has all four fish listed with the same latin name, I only know 2 are juvinile and 2 are adult coloration....What gives?

They're all the same species of fish, often it's a matter of collection location. There are really 3 color morphs, the lemonpeel, heraldi, and half-black, which are considered the A. pyroferus. These color morphs are the juvenile state, and I've never seen a good trace as to how each different fish changes into adult coloration. In the past, some people considered the half-black mimic as the A. chronixis, but I think now most consider it the A. pyroferus (similar to how the Blonde Naso and regular Naso are now both considered the Naso lituratus, though they used to be considered different species... only difference is collection location and color morph). The chocolate is just another common name which mostly refers to the heraldi mimic, though is often applied to any mimic tang (especially if they're sold as adult fish).

The eibli mimic is still considered a different species (or at least, last time I checked... as the A. tristis).

i cant wait.. hopefully a year from now, i can move to a better place and afford a bigger tank.. or else i'll break down my 60g FW and make it a reef tank

The yellow one look like a Atlantic Tang, beware thet grow fast and are serious space claimers.

Chocolate, Kole?
