new clam how to feed

hey thanks for the help not real sure the naem of this thing. It cost about 50 bucks, I have a 55 gal. tank its at the bottom setting on the sand I have 540 watts 2 175 hqi mh and 2 96 watt pc's. so what should I feed it? Thanks MIKE

There are a couple of pieces of information to start that you've left out of your post that would help us give you good advice:
  • Describe your clam and maybe we can help identify what kind you have.
  • What size is the clam? If the clam is at least 3" long, it should not need to be directly fed. If it is under 3", it will need feeding w/ live phytoplankton because its mantle will be too small to provide enough food through photosynthesis alone.

I'm hoping your tank is well established, and that you have a good understanding of how to keep the water chemistry top notch - important clams.

Now that you have purchased a Tridacnid Clam, I'd strongly suggest getting Daniel Knop's book "Giant Clams" so that you can learn about this creature under your care.

it only abouit 2 inches big, its a deeb blue color, ( I think its a croasea maybe not sure on the spelling there) My water is really good everything in there is doing great. So thanks for the advice. MIKE
