New Clam - pics tonight

Just had to share my excitement as I went out over lunch and purchased another clam. This one is a Derasa that is about 2" in size. Very nice looking mantle and I am sure it will be a welcome addition in my tank.

My only question is related to placement of a derasa as i am seeing conflicting information about whether they can be placed on sand or if a frag plug would be needed. I plan on putting the little fella in the sand near the front of my tank, but wasn't sure if he could just sit in the sand. My maxima is really high in the tank (about four inches from surface).

I have been very bad about taking pictures, so tonight when I get him in the tank and happy, i will get some shots.

derasa is a sand dwelling clam so put em on the sand bed, you can put like a smooth flat rock or something underneath the sand where he is so he can attach to that if you want but he should be fine on the sand.

Very good thank you. Just wanted to make sure. Looking forward to getting him in the tank. Unfortunately I can't pick him up from LFS until I leave the office and that seems like an eternity right now...lol. Like a kid the night before christmas.

Sorry. picked up the clam last night and as i was driving home I noticed that it was just a bit open in the bag... which was some cause for concern. So when I got him home I acclimated him and placed him in the sand. He would open quite a bit, but the mantle would not extend very far at all. I am a bit concerned about this one. It will close its shell and open back up so i don't think it is gaping, but something just doesn't seem right. I am going to give it a couple of days to see how it is doing. Hopefully it will do fine.
