I got more clams last Friday. The coolest part about clams is the ones I've bought always look BETTER when I get them than the pictures I choose them from. Here's one:
All of my clams. The biggest one is also new. I think he is absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, I suck with my digital camera and don't have a good pic of him yet.
Squidman,
Looking good! More pictures! I found out with my digital camera if I take 10 pictures 2 will turn out great. I am geting better it used to be one.
Jim
Hope you enjoy viewing your clams. The're all amazing. Hope you get a good picture of the big maxima located on the far right of the group picture. I would really like to see a picture taken from the top. Thanks
Jim, that sounds about right. I have to take about 20 to get two good ones but at least I'm not wasting film!
Lukan, I'll try to get some pics that really show their colors tonight.
sahin, my tank is lit only by VHO's. I have four tubes totaling 380 watts over my 38G tank. I am setting up a dedicated 72G clam tank as we speak. I will be lighting that one with MH and VHO. I am interested to see how these maxima's do as they get bigger under the VHO's. The small gold max I have has shown terrific growth, almost 1/4" shell extension on all sides over the past 8 weeks. I only had 3 tubes over that tank until last weekend when I rewired it for a fourth. So all the growth of my little maxima was with 285W. I hope with the extra light he does even better!
I figure if they decide they need more light I'll just move them to the new tank. I suspect they'll do fine under the VHO's though.
Thanks for the reply.
I also think that it will do just fine.
Good luck with the clam, and hopefully post some pics of beautiful clams when you have the clam tank setup.
I get my clams from toptank at Clamsdirect. He is a sponser here at RC and is truly outstanding at what he does. If you go to the vendor section, do a search on Clamsdirect and you will find MANY happy people, including me. I don't normally post vendor names in this forum since I don't think it is the appropriate place for a plug, unless someone asks specifically.
Call or email toptank if you have questions. He is very helpful and a wealth of info. There are other people who frequent this forum as well, like Toptank and Jim Norris, who are VERY knowledgeable and respond regularly to questions. People like them helped me get setup for my first clam and now I'm on my merry way to having many clams. Clams are King! You won't regret getting hooked on them.
Thanks for the info....I have been a lover of the clams since I first saw them and want to mainly feature them in my tank. Are they hard to care for? I plan on studying more before I get them.
