i got a percula clown from petco, he seemed fine for about 1 1/2 days, then started swimming funny, then died by end of day 2. never ate (tried once) and seemed to breathe hard alot

got another one, introduced it slower, seems ok. had it 3 days now, whenever i turn the lights on it gets "wild" starts swimming around fast at the current or at the glass, sometime swimming fast at the corners of the tank.

i shut the light off, he chills out almost instantly. my tank has good levels and no spots on him, only other thing in there is a crab.

thought id see if he was hungry yesterday and he was and ate. he just seems to freak if the room is bright or the tank lights are on. havent had them on now in 2-3 days for more then a few minutes.

is he crazy/going to die?

:) What kind of lights are they? Clowns and fish can be "blinded" by flipping on a bright light just like you can be. Its just like if you're in a dark room for a while and then somebody goes and flips on all the lights. Stings a little until your eyes adjust and you can see again. If you have the option try just turning on the actinics for an hour or so before turning on all the main lights. Or you can just turn on your lights and watch for 10-20 minutes and see if it settles down.

thats wierd, but i was kinda thinkin that, it seems blind when its swimming almost, like it car barely see

my lights are just two 24" 24w normal aquarium 9300k floresent nothing special its a "budget" setup 20 gallon.

my damsel and crab been ok in there for 2 months just gave the damsel back to the pet store before i got the clown

heres a small 1mb video clip of it "actin crazy" with the lights on if anyone cares to view it and see whats up. i did it for about 30min today then i shut the lights off again cause i dont know what to think

ok i guess it wont let me attach a 1.01mb clip, when it show zip is a valid ext and max size of 1.04

He's trying to escape. This is more common with wild caught fish, and I thought Petco got tank raised clowns. Try covering the sides of the tank so it cant see out and he may calm down some.

he's still doing it! i dont want other life in my tank to start loosing too much light, so i've been leaving the lights on longer. this fool does this all day! when does he figure out hes not going to escape? he even eats in between swimming hard back and forth.

i might try and trade him in ha i think he just doesnt like somthing about his new home

My ocellaris did this for a while when I first added him. I think that your clown sees his reflection, thinks its another clown and he is trying to get to it. You could try getting another clown. Maybe your clown isn't use to being by himself so he is trying to make friends with his reflection. lol

ya i was thinkin that too. i just dont know if my 20gallon can handle 2 i dont hav efully cured live rock and i did rig up a 10gal sump but then i was getting algae because having my powerhead in the sump as a return pump didnt create alot of water movement in the tank, and i got sick of sleeping next to the constant trickle noise.

good idea. i 2nd the motion to get another one. mine did so much better w/ a buddy. if you do regular water changes the tank should be fine.
