New clownfish

Since I can't really have a species tank right now I was thinking of trying to have a little island for the anenome and the clowns

The anenomes do like to move around - they tend to like moderate but not direct flow and lots of light

They seem not to venture away from the rocks though and typically move from rock to rock

Do you think if I create an island that they will be more likely to move around on the glass or bare-bottom? I think that this might make them a hazard in terms of getting sucked into a PH

THanks

I am not sure if a change in land scape would help but it wouldnt hurt for as long as the nem stays out of the PH. What do you clowns do normally, do they stay on the side away from the BTA? They might be "hosting" a cave or other random thing and are not willing to move. The movement of the BTA might be a challenge but that really wont deter the determined clown.

My clowns seem to host the overflow

They used to host the corner of the tank

I did recently aquascape and added two Koralia 3s

They moved from one corner to a second corner created by the overflow

Ahhh, ok. you might have too much current (in areas) for you clowns. I had a couple of MJ mods in my tank and it forced my clowns into a small corner of rocks where they hardly swam out. The current might be causing the movement of your BTA. Now since your clowns did not host in your BTA before, this might put a hole in my idea but you might want to try and put a lower current zone near your anemones and see of the clowns will retreat from their current spot to the new clamer waters near the nem. Just a thought

A good thought but ...

The clowns retreat to the overflow corner of the tank at night but are very active during the day and go throughout the tank

The female ocellaris is 4" and is one of the largest fish in the tank

They could go anywhere in the tank

Finally one of the clones is in the same corner as the clowns

Carpets are a common host for Ocellaris clowns but do host BTAs with some luck .

If you want to get technical about it Ocellaris clownfish only naturally host S. Gigantea and S. Mertensii, not S. Haddoni. Many folks throw out the name carpet too often when referring to S. Haddoni because they are the most common carpet seen locally. Not to mention, the rare availability of S. Mertensii usuallly discourages most from trying to find one and the extreme difficulty to keep S. Gigantea also discourages hobbyists. Therefore, that leaves S. Haddoni as the most saught after carpet-which is usally referred as "the carpet anemone..." technincally speaking.

off topic, Dawman, aren't you apart of saltwaterfish.com's forum. I recognize that name.
