New Clowns, Need Advice!!!

InADream

I'm That Guy!!
I recently lost two clowns to Brooklynella... The tank has been empty of fish for 1 week now and I have 3 -4 weeks more to go... I want to get another pair of clowns to put into QT until they are ready for the tank... My question is once I put them into QT which treatment should i start to ensure they are disease free and hopefully dont have many problems with the display... I was thinking of either Formalin at 2 drops per gallon, or copper at 1 drop per gallon for the 4 week Quarantine...

I would prefer not to add any medication until something starts to show up. I would have a few things on hand:

Fresh RO water to bring the specific gravity down to treat ich.
Copper to treat amyloo.
Formalin to treat brook.
An antibiotic or three within expiration dates, i.e. maracyn, maracyn 2, fura drugs, etc., etc.

Good luck and be patient.

Well I figured to put them into a hypo salinity mix right off the bat and let them relax in that and then slowly bring the salinity up to the same as the tank... I have a friend who wants to give me his pair that he doesnt want anymore, but ones a WC and ones a CB false percula...I am afraid with the WC the chances of brook... As for the meds I have everything on hand and should be ordering a RO/DI filter here shortly, but i can always pick some water up...

If your friends clowns are healthy now, it does not matter whether the fish are WC, CB, TR, whatever. Brook, amyloo, ich, etc., are parasites and they don't care where the fish came from, only if a live fish is present.

If they are fine now, have been eating well for a few weeks, months, best bet is to match current conditions.

QT is just that, isolation. Nothing more, nothing less. Park them in the least stressful manner and observe. A mild drop in specific gravity is not likely to do anything, while a trip to target hypo ranges of 1.009-1.0010 can be tricky. Best to match proper conditions off the bat.

Cheers.
