i agree with a qt tank but i am not a big fan of blasting a coral right in the beginning.
I agree. That's why I use the recommended dosage of each for dipping.

QT tank

QT tank

Thanks all.

I'll be picking up a small QT Tank. I have done my procedure to 5 corals (sps) so far no problem but in the future will keep them in the QT tank for 4 weeks just in case.

Pedro, how big of a QT? I might be a good idea to stick in a Yellow Coris Wrasse to help clean up the corals. Just a though. Any other suggestions to naturally clean the corals?

Good thought Chris. Several of us have been having that discussion. I'm going to add a Yellow Coris Wrasse after all the treatments and carbon and a couple water changes.

Another thought. Some reefers here have outstanding reef husbandry practices and their corals are most probably pest free. I'm picking up lots of pieces of SPS over the next two weeks and all will go into QT. It's important that as those of us who QT, buy corals from friends in the area, that those friends don't get offended by our QT processes, even though they are very confident in the quality of their livestock. Hopefully this comes across correctly.

Makes 100% sense to me. I have been picking up from several reefers with beautiful, well established, healthy looking tanks, but I still want to treat them like if they were infected.

So far, I have not offended any one, have I?

bottom line, treat treat treat, no matter who you get it from! I do not treat interceptor, but that is because I have no SPS. I do iodine and FWE.

anyone tried KMnO4 (potassium permangate). i just did a dip on some monti's the other day, sorry no parameters available, and had some mixed results. while everything alive fell off within minutes, including monti. nudi's, asterinas, and an abalone snail, (nice entourage huh :D ) some of the pieces bleached out. others faired better though and are regained their color within a day. i also blasted with a turkey baster immediately after the dip, and can't imagine any pest could have lived through it.

i somewhat used this as a reference:

I don't think any seller would be offended by those methods, we all have the same goal here. I also would add that if the buyer did see any pest that they notify the seller immediately, it's quite possible that they are unaware they have any pests.

What is "FWE"

Does it have to do with fresh water dipping??

And Interceptor is for red bugs? Does it kill anything else?

wsurf4me: We all can make this a better place;-)

MikeBrke: FWE=Flat Worm Exit and yes, Interceptor is for red bugs.
