New coral frag, too much skeleton for placement.

Hi everyone,
I have just recieved a new elegance coral from an online retailer. The frag is not mounted on a plug or base and has a huge amount of skelenton to polyp ratio. Was looking for some advice on what i can do, can i cut some off with a dremel or something? If so how much? This is my first time using a forum, will try to add a photo.

I had the same question with my elegance. Prevailing opinion was they're too touchy and sensitive to mess with. Bury the cone, or use a short length of PVC to support it, just don't go cutting it.

My elegance polyp bailed anyways.

Do not cut the skeleton. They do fine with just planting the skeleton in the sand but not too deep, maybe leave about 1" of the skeleton above the sand. Mine is very happy to be placed like this.

If you want to see pictures of how I've got mine and where its placed take a look on my thread here http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2540376

If you have any particular questions about Elegance placement and care, just ask.

What he said. Elegance corals are found in lagoons with their skeletons in sand. Because their tissue is prone to tearing, you should not place them up in the rocks.

Thanks for your responses, i just got back from work and found out why the skeleton is so big. The main polyp is over 6-8 inch wide. I only have a 60 liter nano so i went for the small one....... not so small lol
