new crocea clam pic

jrein8383.

eveyone i have talked to said he looked normal ...thanks for the encouragement... he's doing great...

I got him from a local LFS

ok, clam update/question...

Got him up about a foot from a 150w hqi pendant in my 46, got 80watts of normal output actinics behind it...
He's on a shell, and hasn't moved...heres a picture, and please be honest, why does he look soooo open? any advice? my calcium/alkalinity is in the right spot...
Its just the intake part of him, he's spread, and reacts to fish near him, but that opening....man, is this gaping? how do i fix it? I think he's happy because he hasn't moved.
Just wanna be sure he's alright.

roceas usually gape, much more than maximas...if possible raise him up higher closer to the bulb, directly under it....they sure love all the light they can get...

ah, I will, but he's parked pretty far up, six inches from the surface of the water, the bulb is six or so off of that, does he look like he's gaping to you? Just saw him "burp" for the first time, a piece of flake food rested on his mantle and he started "burping" how funny! SUCH cool animals...he's actually got a slight growth ring started i believe on the edge of his shell.

didnt realize it was that far up.....and im sure its atached already, leave it at the same heighth, if you move it place it sirectly under the halide....other than that, my croceas gaped from time to time untill i really got a handel on water quality and jumped up to some super strong lighting....

ah, i see, you know this guy is just toooooo cooool, I didn't realize how neat clams were until i took a chance on this guy, you wouldn't believe the impact on my nitrates with this guy in there its awsome!

yes they are pretty neat thats why Im setting up a 57 gallon clam tank with the slanted front to see the true colors, it will be plumed into my curent reef...so far i have 6 clams 4 croceas and 2 maxs, my nitrates last time i checked was either a 0.2 or 0.5 ppm...
