New Crocea

Hey guys just wondered if my crocea looks good to you guys. It is my first clam. That "hole" in the second pic seems to get bigger when i take it out of the flow....

Sure looks like its gaping. Did you just get it?

i'd say it's a dersa as well. how long ago did you put him in the tank? can you post all your water parameters? what are you dosing for Ca and ALK? does he react well to shadows? what else do you keep in the tank?

I agree that its a derasa, but do not think its gaping. Sometimes the inhalent siphon can quite open (as seen here). Many times, this can be quite temporary and due to water conditions. If it continues long term, AND THE SHELL EXPANDS WIDER AND WIDER WITH THE MANTLE WITHDRAWING, then you'll dealing with gaping. To me, the definitive condition for gaping is when the shell adductor muscles atrophy and the clam shell does not close, and in fact almost appear to "split open".

I put him in the tank 3 days ago.
I am dosing Natureefs(Local florida distributor) Reef Builder
Yes he does.... i wouldnt of bought him without good reactions..
I keep mostly zoa's and small fish like a jawfish and a watchman goby/pistol shrimp pair.

My levels are as follows-(Just did a water change)
Salinity= 1.026
Nitrate/Nitite/ammonia=0
PH=8.0
Phosphates=0
Ca=450
Alk=11dkh

And by the way the clam looks much better when i put it into medium to higher flow and he seemed to really puff up last night during the rotifer/plankton feeding....
