New Crosshatch Pair

Do these fish pair in the wild (as they collected as a pair)? I always thought theyw ere haremic, which makes a collected pair.....well......innaccurate.

My "Reef fishes of Hawaii" book says they "typically appear in small aggregations", as to how many "small" means, and how many males that would be, I certainly don't know. All I know is AT had 2 pair in stock and they were captured together and shipped as a pair according to Michael. I would be curious what Robb says.

Hi Kirk,

Glad to hear they are doing so well for you and very nice photos. Just to clarify since I’ve been out at this collections site, it is an offshore pinnacle and large aggregations of male and female Crosshatch Triggers hover above it at about 175-200 feet. The collectors will net specimens sometimes along the sides of the pinnacle where male and female “pairs” are isolated from the main group. It is not that they are necessarily a breeding pair but collected together where they are found. Most often the Crosshatch Triggers are quickly lead into a barrier net with a mix of males and females collected.

Thanks for the info Michael. Micael has some amazing pics from his dives on the Aquatouch website.

They are still doing great. The male is a real bruiser, and the girl is doing great as well. Casio is slow playing my repair on my video camera, I will upload a video when they finally return my camera.
