sweet coral first one looks like a tort
yup - as i said, that is the only one i know the name of. it really has gotten beautiful.

I cleaned the skimmer this morning. It was FUNKY. the skimmate looked like coffee and smelled like cat pee... only worse. I got myself a baby bottle brush the other day at target and man they should re-package them and sell them as Skimmer Brushes. worked like a champ.

So after the Remora got cleaned it started doing its microbubble crap again. I guess it is still in its break-in period so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. (because it is working fabulously!)

here is a quick picture of how things are looking right now. Of course i still havent started aquascaping or anything, but everyone likes pictures.... right?

oh yah - and i did end up getting 10 more pounds of live rock so the total is now at 55 pounds. I think that should be adequate.

Lookin good I had a setup very similar to yours and i liked it alot but it was time to move to one big tank. Keep us updated on the progress!

thanks! I know eventually i'll do one large tank. probably 350+ gallons, but for now in my house i dont really have the correct space to do it. My next house i'll build around a big tank!

That is looking very sweet!

Aural, my tank will be about 35gal...26 gal tank, 10gal sump, and 5.5 fuge. The mag will be external.

If your looking for something bigger there is a guy on here looking for a custom 4'x4'x4'. I made my stand big enough for a 24x24x24...

Keep up with the pics!!!!! I can't wait to see your reef stocked.

how is the zeo working Are you using zeo in the tank you are holding you're corals in??? also what are you going to do for calcium supplementation???
cb

Sounds great, Joe - I'll be interested in seeing your progress!

I've never used ZEOvit before. The 40g will be the first, and as of right now there are, of course, no corals in it.

as far as calcium suplimentation, for now i will be adding calcium buffer a few times a week. I thought about doing a CA reactor, but I dont want the equipment list to get any longer with this system.

yea just an idea it does take away fro the over all look and feel of that self contained aquarium

hey btw any updated pics cb

yah it would be nice. but i dont feel like dealing with CO2.
an auto top off with kalk water would also help if you dont want to deal with CO2

okay - now that sounds like something i can handle. I am already planning an auto top off system. I already have a float switch that i'm going to use - i'm just waiting for my 5 gal bucket to come in.

I have never used kalk before. i have no idea what i would need or how i would impliment the system. any help would be greatly appreciated.

check your local grocery stores for Mrs. Wages pickling lime, its the same thing as kalk just a different name on the container ( and less then half the cost ). I use 1 cup of kalk per gallon of top off water.

ahhh I have another idea???

A Nilsen Reactor, like a Calcium reactor, it helps dissolve calcium into a useable form before distributing it into the rest of your system. A Nilsen Reactor uses a separate chamber to mix kalkwasser into the water. No carbon dioxide is needed.

It just sits in line between youââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢re tank and your auto top off reservoir

thats really no different then just using kalk in your top off water, other then the added cost of the nilsen reactor.
