I needed to get a new skimmer for our 300 gal mixed reef and after much searching, I chose another Deltec due to prior satisfaction (12 years) and the extreme build quality of Deltec.
I have nothing to gain and received nothing from Deltec for sharing this information.
Simply put, I believe it is the very best protein skimmer on the market. I chose the 1500i which comes with a DC pump and simple controller. It has an overflow system built in which ingeniously regulates the level and eliminates the skimmer cup from overflowing and putting the skimmate back into the sump/display.
The adjustment knob truly works like a champ, and disassembly for cleaning is like none other. It also has a manual wiper blade that cleans the inner wall of the cup in between cup removal and cleaning.
It is more expensive than the top of the line models from other manufactures, but the quality (again in my opinion) far exceeds any other. I paid about $900 with tax and think it is worth every penny.
Lastly, Deltec now has great representation in the USA located in Fort Lauderdale FL. In fact, I bought the skimmer online and picked it up at their facility an hour from where we live.
