I am about to transfer from my 46 to the new 75 gallon Elos 100 and will do a thread. What return pump and brand/size of sump do you guys like? The tank size is length 40 width 22.5 and height 19.6. Elos recommends Sicce Synchra 2.5. I was thinking magdrive but they are not adjustable and might be noisy.

Thanks

I have read 3 to 5x your tank volume or 10x your sump volume. I have a quiet one 3000 on a 110. I am going to a smaller return because of microbubbles.

Avoid the MagDrive, they are loud and produce a lot of heat. I have a similar size system and went with the Eheim. I wouldn't say it is totally quiet, but u really don't here it over my noisy Vortechs.

Now my skimmer with the Red Dragon pump, that's silent!

Sounds familiar...just about 7 months ago I upgraded from my 6+ year old 46 bowfront to a new 75g drilled. I transferred some things, and chose to leave others behind. I learned a lot and researched and am really happy with where I am today.

Sump: trigger systems ruby 30. You can get the larger 36" but I opted for this one because I needed space in my stand for dosing pumps and jugs.

Return: mag 7. I equipped a ball valve in the return line to fine tune, but found that it works best wide open. I question if I should have gotten a mag 9 and dialed it back a little, but the mag 7 gives a nice flow through the middle chambers refugium and works just fine.

Regarding heat, I have my heater in the first chamber, a digital thermometer in my return chamber, and a digital thermometer in my display. My return area is normally .1-.2 degree F warmer than my display.

I would also say my return is quieter than my skimmer

I use a Tunze Silence for my 75 gallon tank's return - it is 100% quiet, never hear it and doesn't produce much heat at all.

I've never owned an Eheim, but I think that the 1262 it is the most popular and most used.

I have the Eheim 1262, fantastic pump, pretty quiet.Soon as I get the funds I will switch to the Tunze Silence.

Ive heard good things about the new reef octopus return pumps...I just picked up their smaller model which does 750gph for my 120 build.

I use the Sicce Synchra 2.0 and it is very quiet and no micro bubbles from the return pump. It is also a small footprint.
